"Am I Not Immortal?"
A Drabble conversation with...

Author's note: On June 30, 2026, Vladimir Putin of Russia attended the funeral ceremony for Sergei Ivanov, Russian ex-Defense Minister and one of Putin's closest friends and allies. Putin spent about half an hour near the coffin. He was observed laying a cross on himself and moving his lips, as if in a prayer. As an experienced lip reader and occasional supernatural voice registrar, I have transcribed this conversation for you:
"Dear Lucifer, please answer my prayer. I'm scared."
"I'm here. What are you scared of, Vlad?"
"Luci, are you really here?"
"Lucifer for you, Vlad." [irritated] "What are you afraid of, again?"
"Death. You promised me I'll live forever, and you'll help my daughter make me immortal. And now you've taken Sergei."
"I promised no such thing. I did promise to help your daughter with immortality research, but some things are beyond my control."
"Like what?"
"Like Death deciding it's Sergei's time. We're having a grand time here, by the way."
[Ivanov's shrieks of pain are heard in the background...]
