Akeyla

“Hi there, my name is Akeyla, I am one of the main characters in the short-stories labeled with the subtitle ‘Dream’. Hopefully you all enjoy these little short stories but I wanted to introduce myself and hopefully make the stories a little easier to understand.”

“First things first; I have a small collection of supernatural powers. Where they come from, how they work, and their purpose is as much a mystery to me as it will be to readers. However, I will do my best to explain them to the best of my ability so everyone can keep up and we don’t have to pause an exciting scene just to explain some properties I may possess. But, more on those later, one thing I wanted to let all readers know is the stories with the subtitle ‘Dream’ are all based off of actual dreams, and I appear in ALL of them! Anyway there may be reoccurring characters but for sure I will be in all of them. Other characters and reoccurring characters will not necessarily get their own introduction piece like mine, but that does not mean they are not special.”

“To the aforementioned point, any character in the ‘Dream’ short stories who shares a name with another character from a different ‘Dream’ short story, it is assumed they will be the same character although their relationship to me may be different. Another thing on this point; since these short stories are all based upon real dreams they may not actually relate to one another. Many of these short stories may have correlations and similarities, but they won’t necessarily always tie together.”

“Anyways to my powers, the main one is flight. Not like a magical levitation or anything like that. Literally I summon large wings on my back that have beautiful silver feathers. That’s right, silver is my favorite color and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Plus the wings match my eyes! Another bonus!”

“Ok, moving on, next ability is a minor force-field; unlike my flight which is completely natural and easy to control, the force-field is a little more finicky. It doesn’t always work when I try to use it, and I have to rely on a gut feeling to tell me that I can use it; if I try to use this shield when I don’t have the gut feeling then it’s a no-go. This force-field has 2 different modes; an aura that extends 5ft out in all directions like a bubble, I can target either myself or someone else with it to protect either but I can’t have more than 1 shield going at once. Usually to activate the aura force-field I will cross both arms in front of me. The other mode is much stronger but covers a dome area on in front of either myself or a target of my choice; to activate this mode I will generally place my left arm straight out with the palm facing away from me and my right hand I will brace against my left fore-arm. These powers although useful are again pretty finicky; so while reading, if you wind up wondering why I didn’t it in a crucial moment, that’s why.”

“The next thing I can do is summon 2 types of weapons. The first is a short-sword; it has a plain hilt, but has glowing light blue runic etchings that run the length of the blade. I can attack my enemies physically or swing the blade in an arc sending an arc of blue flames at an area. My next weapon I can summon is a bow made out of a navy blue energy; the bowstring is also made of energy and is so white it’s almost clear, rendering it almost invisible. When I pull back on the bowstring a straight line of crackling white energy appears and upon release fires like lightning at the target of choice. Both weapons are highly effective and either one or the other will appear in just about every ‘Dream’ story where there is action to be had.”

“Oh right! So if you see text like the above that is inner me talking; in this instance he is always talking to me and no one else can hear him. I know, I know, I’m a girl and I referred to inner me as a male. This is because the voice always comes across masculine and very different from my own, not sure why, but the voice in the dreams has always been there and so he is included as well. I call him Resckin and everyone else can feel free to refer to him as that as well. Resckin here, is much better at controlling the powers and often gets very frustrated with me so he’ll ask to take over, or sometimes just do it without asking if the situations calls for it.”

[“Guilty as charged. So to clarify if you see text like this, that means I am in control and am speaking to someone through Akeyla. Generally speaking I prefer action to words so I’ll only stick around long enough to get the job done and leave the rest to Akeyla. Idle conversation doesn’t interest me and I have no patience for others. Oh and heads up Akeyla doesn’t know what I am thinking so the story will never to be told from my perspective, sorry, but not sorry I don’t like to divulge much about me.”]

“Well that about sums it up, Resckin or inner me, is much different than I am personality wise but he’s still a part of me. I think that about sums up everything. The only other thing to note is due to the dark nature of some dreams there may be some major edits to what actually happened in the dreams - in order to share with everyone I have to make it publishable so that means certain content is a no-go; If I happen to react strongly to certain situations that don’t always call for an extreme reaction this is likely due to one of those edits. With that being said I hope everyone enjoys the stories.”
