THE STORY OF ILYAS AJAAR

By El-Amin Published 4 years ago 4 min read

My name is Ilyas Ajaar, and this is my story.

I wish I did not leave home that fateful night. Back in my hometown children never had the gut to ask for anything from their parents because they consider it as an act of improper training. From when we were little even if we were asked to bring things at school, we dare not ask our parents for money, instead we go out and hustle for the money.

After few months, my maternal uncle who lived abroad finally landed in the town everyone was excited cause having a family member who is based abroad is a big respect for the family. When my uncle got down from his Lexus everyone opened their mouth in shock because they have never seen an excessively big car before. I know in everyone's mind they want to ask how is that possible? It is a lot of children in our hometown has travelled but they never return because they know they might not be able to go back or even if they go things will not be the same way it used to be before. My uncle greeted my mum and dad, I ran to him and gave him a noticeably big hug and kissed him on his cheek, my uncle smiled, and we welcomed him traditionally. I was quite shocked cause I never expected him to come back after all the emotional and mental trauma we have been through in this village, me and my friends do ask ourselves if this village is under a spell, because why would young teenagers like us work to survive when we have parents. At our age we are meant to be under our parent and still be asking for a lot of things which we need both at school and what we desire to have, a lot of villagers have killed themselves because they could not make living for themselves especially children of our age. In my class at school, we were 1,220 students but now we have only 100 students we heard some passed away while some do not even want to come back cause of the expenses, they had to deal with themselves.

My uncle told my mum he was going to be here for few months, they were all excited but deep down I knew something was not right about this visit. Two days passed and I was still feeling strange I called some of my friends and decided to let them know but instead they abused me and left, I called them and said ''It's fine if you do not believe me but at least let keep it a secret till I find out what wrong''. After few days I went to meet my mum and explained to her that I will not go to school till my uncle leaves, she asked why, and I said ''uncle said he is going to teach me till he leaves to keep himself busy''.

My intention was to find out what was wrong about this visit. Before I forget to say this before my uncle travelled out of the country, he was always saying he would not come back to the village immediately when he steps out, that was part of the reason I am having doubts about this visit. After few weeks I noticed my parent would always tell us to leave the room whenever they want to speak with my uncle, it was normal to everyone but weird to me, my parents were so close to my uncle than the way they are to me. honestly, I was not really bothered because I had a lot of things to focus on. I saw my mum and uncle doing somethings in the dark I was so nervous I ran out instantly, I wish I stood there to hear what they were saying I would have found out about what they were planning earlier.

On my birthday, I decided to ask my mum some questions, but she said I was going to find out this night I was happy cause today is my 15th birthday. I went to my friend's house to inform them my mum wanted to surprise me for my birthday so they should be there by 2:30pm. When it was 2:30pm my friend arrived there and brought different gift for me, I collected it and decided to drop it inside on my way out I saw my dad room opened which was not usually opened down. I stretched my neck inside and found my uncle and mum discussing and my dad kept on saying ''No'', I went inside grabbed my school bag and ran out. I kept running without looking back, I made my way to the bus station I made sure no one saw me when I was sneaking. I was the only one inside, but I was not bothered because I was still breathing fast after hearing what my fake mum who was about to sell me off for slavery with my uncle also. The bus took off and has not stopped for the past 12 days and I am still inside till now, I authored this story inside my book and threw it out of the window because I knew someone would find it and would surely pass it across. I hope someone finds it.

This is the story of me Ilyas Ajaar.
