Abbie and the pixie in a pear tree

A new friendship

In an old field there lies a hill. On the hill the last pear tree of the orchard sits. In the tree a pixie dwells. Her name is Monique. She is a lonely pixie as there are no other fruit trees in her grove any longer; as the trees went, so did the pixies. She has spent years alone in her grove.

One day a young girl comes and sits under Monique's pear tree. She is afraid of this human girl. As evening falls she hears the girl's mother call her home. “Abbie dinner is ready!” Abbie closes her sketch pad and runs home. Days pass with the Abbie coming back to the pear tree every day to draw. Monique, scared at first, becomes mad and tries to scare the girl off from coming back. She tries dropping pears close to the girl and tries other tricks to get the girl to leave and not come back. But every day Abbie is back and every day she draws and hums to herself as Monique plays tricks on her.

One day Abbie talks to Monique. “Hello pixie. My name is abbie. I have enjoyed my days drawing under your tree even with your tricks you play every day.”

She is caught speechless. How did this human girl know what she was? Did the girl see her? Scared once more She hides and does nothing to the girl that day or the next few day’s. But each day Abbie talks as she draws, telling Monique about her. What she likes and dislikes. How her days are before she comes to the pear tree in the afternoon.

Before too long Monique comes down from her pear tree and speaks for the first time to Abbie. “Hello Abbie. I am sorry for the pranks I pulled on you.” Abbie smiles at her and waves.

“It's ok.” Abbie says to Monique.

“My name is Monique.” She tells Abbie.

“Nice to meet you Monique.” Abbie says cheerfully.

They start to become friends over the next days and weeks as summer becomes fall. And Abbie had to start to come less as school started. The pear tree had no fruit left for the year and the leaves began to change and fall. Monique began preparing for winter while Abbie was at school. Dried nuts and berries that were left and wool from sheep nearby to make her home warm for the winter.

On a day close to winter, Abbie asked Monique about how she would go into it. And they had a talk.

“I have gathered supplies for the winter and have my winter things to wear and dried food to last a bit so i won't need to forage for a bit into winter. But if you like I can come to you when I do need something.”

Abbie smiled and giggled. “I would like that , your my friend and I will help you when you need it and you can even come into my room for a bit if you like.”

Monique nodded in agreement just as Abbie’s mother called for her for dinner. It would be a few days before Abbie would be back. During that, The pixie would gather more and make things for herself.

Meanwhile, during her time away, Abbie asked her parents to restart an orchard surrounding the pear tree. She knew her new friend was lonely. She wanted to help rebuild her friend's home and see if more would not join her. She always wanted to remain friends with Monique. And she hoped to make even more friends like her. Abbie couldn't wait to see how things turned out for both her friendship and her wish to rebuild the orchard around the pear tree she so loved.
