A Quiet Storm

A Memoir of Loss and Resilience

By Abdullah KhanPublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

In the oppressive cloak of darkness, I find myself a solitary figure, a prisoner of my own thoughts. A place once yearned for, now a haunting reminder of the fragility of existence.

The darkness, once a feared adversary, has become a strange companion, a silent witness to my internal turmoil. It's a paradoxical relationship, at once comforting and suffocating. As I grapple with this newfound solitude, I long for the echoes of the past, the sounds of life, and the warmth of human connection.

I recall a time when I could slip into my mother's dreams, revisiting cherished memories. We would retreat to a simpler time, a time of shared laughter and unconditional love. Her acceptance of her body, her free spirit, and her unwavering support were beacons of light in my life.

Now, in this silent expanse, I am the sole narrator of my own story. A story that has taken an unexpected turn, a story of loss and longing. I am forced to confront the harsh reality that life is fleeting, and death is inevitable.

As I navigate this challenging period, I seek solace in the act of surrender. I must let go of the past, embrace the present, and trust in the future. Like a glass slipping from a weary hand, I must allow myself to fall, to break, and to rebuild.
