I watch as my five year old learns to ride his bike. Dad’s running behind him keeping him steady.

My heart’s in my throat because inevitably my baby is going to take a tumble.

Sure enough!

Just as Dad lets go of the bike, my boy turns the front forks and down he tumbles.

He lay crying and Dad tries to coax him back up but it’s a mother’s job to soothe her baby.

I walk over, give him a cuddle and murmur a few comforting sounds. He’s soon ready to jump back on his bike, happy to try again.

This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'soothe'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

See, I would have laughed if that was me hahahahhaha and that's why I don't wanna be a mother. No child deserves to be laughed at. Loved your drabble!
