Onome arose from the bed to her daughter's room. She opened the door gently and stood at the entrance of the door. She glanced at the unkempt room and couldn't help but shudder at the sight.

Times without numbers, she had spoken to Elizabeth about cleanliness. It's like she wasn't listening.

Onome looked at the opened wardrobe and then the clothes on the tiled floor. The shoe rack was worst. Her shoes were scattered. Onome hissed and murmured to herself.

"Is like this Elizabeth doesn't know she's a girl oo"

She looked at the clock on the wall, it was 4:08am.

"I won't tolerate this" she said aloud.

She went to the bed and tapped her daughter.

"Elizabeth! Lizzy! Lizzy! Wake up"

Lizzy reluctantly sat up in bed then stretched her body and yawned loudly too.

"It's not dawn yet and today is Saturday. I need to sleep oo" she complained.

"Stand up!" Onome ordered.

Startled my her mother's commanding tone, Lizzy quickly stood up.

"Take a look at your room" she ordered.

Lizzy glanced at the room nonchalantly.

"Well... I don't see anything wrong with my room" she said trying to sit.

"If you try to sit on that bed, I will deal ruthlessly with you. I am asking you one more time to take a good look at your room''

"It's unkempt" she said without looking."

"Hmmmm! Haven't I taught you what cleanliness is all about? She asked.

"You did mum."

"Good! I won't condole dirtiness in my house. You must practice cleanliness at all times: Cleanliness of your body and surrounding. Ahhh! Don't give me bad name oo"

She took a deep breath and looked at her daughter.

"A child that says her mother won't sleep will not sleep either."

She looked at Lizzy's contour face but care less.

"You are not going back to sleep. You have got to take care of this messy room. I want it properly arranged. Put everything in their right places. I want everything organized. Put your books in your school bag."

"Please mum. Let me sleep a little. I will do it in the morning."

"No! Go to work immediately" she ordered.

Lizzy didn't go to work immediately. She sat slowly on the bed and frowned deeply. She glanced round the room. Reluctantly she stood up again and started arranging the room. She knows she will be properly disciplined if she fail to obey instructions and she wasn't ready for such.

Lizzy wasn't sleeping when her mom entered the room. She only pretended to be asleep.

She opened her eyes a little and saw her mother open her wardrobe. She went through the pockets of some of Lizzy's clothes.

Satisfied, she got Lizzy's school bag and went through the content. Lizzy smiled because her mother will never find what she is looking for. Nothing to find anyway because her parents made it clear to her and siblings never to come home with what does not belong to them. So far, they try to keep to instructions.

Onome put the bag where she took it from, put off the light and closed the door behind her.

Sometimes, Elizabeth hates her mother because of her high handedness. She would have loved to try some of the things her classmates discuss in the class but the fear of her mother always stopped her. She knows her mother would frown at her.

Her father is not even better. He is a disciplinarian. She doesn't try nonsense because she knows the consequence. That's not to say they don't love her. She feels they're over protective which she doesn't like.

Lizzy wants to be free. She wants to go partying like some of her friends. She listens to some of her friends and their escapades intrigues her. She is a senior student preparing for the Waec like other students in her class. Her friends have phone. They bring it to school without the knowledge of the school though. They show off in class and her parents have refused her any access to phone.

"You can ask us for our phones if you're to make any research" they told her.

Lizzy wished her parents will just give her a little freedom to explore.
