There is a girl who loves baking cake.

It doesn't matter if she's not the best baker in town or if it takes her forever to get it right. She always puts on a smile and does what she needs to do. Her parents love that about her, they're proud of their child. But some things make them wonder just how much effort she has put into this hobby because it’s obvious that she hasn’t been eating very well.

She is so passionate about baking and trying out different cake designs she often forgets to eat, but her parents don't mind because all she wants is for her family to be happy. It seems like something would have made sense for her to go to culinary school, maybe even a culinary arts degree. They can’t help but feel a little envious because they know their daughter has such an amazing talent for cooking and baking.

They are very proud of their daughter. She is always looking for more ways to improve. Sometimes they want to tell her they’re proud of everything she’s accomplished, but every time they open their mouths, nothing comes out and they can’t seem to keep from feeling guilty. Because when she’s not around, they miss her.

Her favourite dessert is apple pie.

She tries everything, but nothing ever seems to satisfy her. She thinks she’ll never learn enough to bake as good a pie as she makes. Every year, they wish they could teach her what they know, but they just can’t seem to find the words.

Their daughter is only eight years old. They know what that means to her and they’re so grateful to have a daughter who cares so much about others. They've decided to start saving up for her culinary school tuition, and they both pray she'll make something wonderful out of herself. Maybe someday, they will be able to show her what she's capable of.

When she finishes middle school, her parents plan on enrolling her in culinary school. If they fail to pass her aptitude tests, they will try again, but they believe they have already found a path for her.

The first day of classes at the community college where she will attend culinary school is filled with excitement. She wakes early and is waiting anxiously outside the door of the apartment building. She doesn't care how late it is. Her parents are going to drive her to the new dormitory today. Today is her first real day as a student in culinary school. Her stomach flips nervously when she walks into the classroom. She has never been in a room so big before.

Everyone is staring at her, and she knows she looks nervous. A woman with long blonde hair approaches her and introduces herself as Dr Gantley, the school’s head chef.

"I'm sure you are confused," she says kindly.

A few students laugh out loud.

"What's your name?"

"Sophia."

"Well, Sophie," the woman smiles at her. "Welcome to Culinary School, it's nice to meet you!"

"Thanks," Sophie says hesitantly, still worried about being laughed at for not knowing what to say.

Dr Gantley turns around and starts teaching, giving instructions to everyone. She explains how each piece of equipment works, how to use them correctly, etc.

After the morning class ends, Dr Gantley tells everyone to go home for lunch. The students begin leaving the classroom one by one. Sophie lingers for a minute, wondering what to do now. She doesn't want to leave yet, she's anxious to see how everyone else has behaved. After several seconds she finally decides to follow the rest of the students.

At first, she walks down the hallway to find some sort of cafeteria, but after checking almost all of the rooms she realizes she doesn't know where the cafeteria is located. Instead, she decides to ask someone.

"Excuse me," she calls out.

"Yeah?" a young woman answers her. She wears a white shirt underneath her black apron. Her hair is tied back in pigtails.

"Do you know where the cafeteria is? I'm lost."

"Oh! Sorry, I was just finishing up here," the woman apologizes. "Come with me. I'll take you there."

Before she gets the chance to respond, she's gone. Sophie follows her through the hallways until they arrive at the doors leading outside. As soon as the cold air hits her skin, the warmth returns to Sophie's face.

"Thank you," Sophie thanks the woman who leads her to the parking lot.

"No problem. We should get together sometime. You look like a sweet person."

Sophie blushes at the compliment and nods. There is something about this woman that makes her comfortable. She feels like she knows her, but also like they haven't met before.

"My name is Emma," the woman introduces herself once they are seated in a car.

"Sophie," She introduced herself to the woman. "I noticed you were feeling quite unsure of yourself when you came in newly. If you want to be at the top in this school and life, you must stop doubting yourself and believe you can do it if put in the work," the woman to Sophie and at that moment her confidence rose to maximum and thanked the woman for her advice. They drove off and went to the cafeteria.
