A Diary That Predicts Murders Before They Happen
Every murder was written in the diary before it happened until the next victim became its owner.

The Strange Purchase
I never intended to buy the diary. On a rainy afternoon, I wandered into a small antique shop tucked away in one of the oldest parts of the city. The place smelled of dust, old paper, and forgotten stories. Shelves were crowded with items that looked as though they hadn't been touched in decades. While browsing, I noticed a black leather diary resting inside a locked glass cabinet. Unlike everything around it, the diary seemed oddly preserved. Its cover was smooth, its pages appeared untouched, and a silver symbol was engraved on the front. The shop owner sold it to me for almost nothing. Looking back, I often wonder whether he knew exactly what he was getting rid of.
The First Prediction
That evening, I sat in my apartment and opened the diary. I expected blank pages or perhaps old personal notes. Instead, the first page contained a detailed account of a murder. It described a man named Richard Hale who would be found dead in a parking garage at exactly 11:18 p.m. the following night. The entry included the location, the cause of death, and details that seemed too specific to be fiction. I assumed it was part of a crime novel someone had started writing and forgotten to finish. Amused, I placed the diary on my desk and thought nothing more about it.
The News That Changed Everything
The next night, while watching television, a breaking news report interrupted the program. A local businessman named Richard Hale had been discovered murdered in a downtown parking garage. The report mentioned details identical to those written in the diary. The same location. The same time. Even the same method of murder. A cold sensation spread through my chest. I rushed to the diary and reread the entry several times. There was no mistake. Somehow, the diary had described the crime before it happened.
A New Entry Appears
Unable to sleep, I opened the diary again. To my shock, a new page had appeared. I was certain it hadn't been there before. This entry described another murder scheduled to occur three days later. The victim was a woman named Amanda Pierce, and the details were just as precise. The diary explained where she would be, how the attack would happen, and the exact time of her death. Fear mixed with curiosity. If the diary truly predicted future murders, then perhaps those murders could be prevented.
The Warning Nobody Believed
The following morning, I contacted the police. Explaining that a diary could predict murders was as ridiculous as it sounded. Officers listened politely but remained skeptical. I showed them the entries, but without evidence, there was little they could do. Desperate, I searched for Amanda Pierce online and eventually found her social media profile. I sent multiple warnings, urging her to avoid the location mentioned in the diary. She never responded. Three days later, the murder occurred exactly as predicted. The realization was terrifying. The diary wasn't guessing. It knew.
The Pattern Continues
Over the next several weeks, new entries continued appearing. Every few days, another name would materialize on the pages. Every prediction came true. The victims shared no obvious connection. Some were wealthy. Others struggled financially. They ranged from students to retirees. Police investigations failed to identify any common link. Meanwhile, my obsession with the diary grew stronger. Each new entry felt like a countdown I couldn't stop. Sleep became difficult. Every time I opened the diary, I feared seeing another name.
The Hidden Message
One evening, while studying several entries side by side, I noticed something unusual. Certain words appeared darker than the surrounding text. At first, I assumed it was a printing defect. Then I realized the highlighted words formed a hidden message when combined. The message revealed a location and a date. It pointed toward an abandoned railway station on the outskirts of the city. Unsure of what I might find, I decided to go.
The Man at the Station
The station was silent when I arrived. Broken lights flickered above empty platforms, and weeds grew through cracks in the concrete. For hours, nothing happened. Then, just before midnight, I saw a man standing at the far end of the platform. He wore a dark overcoat and seemed completely unsurprised by my presence.
"You brought the diary," he said.
The certainty in his voice sent a chill down my spine.
Before I could ask how he knew about it, he smiled and said something even stranger.
"You're not the first owner."
The Diary's Secret
The man claimed the diary had existed for generations. According to him, every owner eventually discovered the same horrifying truth. The diary wasn't predicting murders. It was recording events that had already happened in another version of reality. He explained that countless timelines existed side by side, separated by barriers humanity couldn't perceive. Somehow, the diary acted as a bridge between them. It received information from a future where the murders had already occurred and transferred those details into our world.
The Cost of Changing Fate
I demanded to know why the diary only recorded murders.
"Because death creates the strongest echoes," the stranger replied.
He explained that previous owners had attempted to prevent the crimes. Some succeeded. Others failed. Yet every intervention created unexpected consequences. Saving one life sometimes caused another death elsewhere. Altering fate came with a cost nobody fully understood. The diary wasn't offering solutions. It was presenting impossible choices.
The Final Prediction
Before leaving, the stranger handed me a folded note.
"Read this tomorrow," he said.
Then he disappeared into the darkness.
The following morning, I opened the diary and found a fresh entry waiting for me. My hands trembled as I began reading. The victim's name appeared in the first sentence.
It was mine.
The diary described where I would die, how it would happen, and the exact minute the murder would occur. Every prediction so far had come true. Every victim had ignored the warning because they never knew it existed. But this time was different. I knew exactly what the diary claimed would happen.
The Race Against Time
For the next twenty-four hours, panic consumed me. I avoided the location mentioned in the diary. I changed my routine. I locked every door and stayed surrounded by people whenever possible. Yet the more I tried to escape, the more events seemed to push me toward the predicted outcome. Strange coincidences guided me in the same direction. Missed phone calls, unexpected encounters, and random delays all felt connected. It was as though fate was correcting itself.
The Blank Page
As midnight approached, I opened the diary one final time. The entry describing my death had vanished.
In its place was a blank page.
No prediction.
No explanation.
No indication of what would happen next.
To this day, I don't know whether I changed my future or fulfilled it in some unseen way. The diary remains locked inside a safe, untouched for years. Sometimes, however, I hear pages turning on their own in the middle of the night. And whenever I finally gather the courage to check, there is always one more entry waiting to be read.
