Jacob could barely keep his eyes open, finally drifting off to sleep when he heard a single tap on his bedroom window. It was 3:33 a.m., and he had to convince himself that he was only dreaming. Who in the hell could possibly be at his window at this ungodly hour.

He pulled the blankets up over his head, and struggled to drift off again, when another sharp double-tap rudely awakened him again. This time he was certain it wasn't a dream, but he felt paralyzed to move in fear of another knock, or even worse.
