It was under French colonial rule until 1954.

It was under French colonial rule until 1954. The French colonial regime in Vietnam was the longest in Vietnamese history and its goal was to make Vietnam a protectorate, like Cambodia and Laos.

In 1858, France established a protectorate over Cochinchina (now southern Vietnam) with Saigon as its capital. After the Franco-Siamese War (1874–75), France controlled all of Indochina save Tonkin; it took control of Cambodia and Laos after their independence from Siam in 1863 and 1886 respectively. In 1897 Prince Cường Để (later Emperor Bảo Đại) declared himself "Emperor of Annam" at Hué; he made peace with France when he became emperor but continued fighting against them for several years before signing a treaty ending his reign as an independent monarch on 20 December 1901.[8]

During five decades Vietnamese people had to suffer from war and economic stagnation.

Vietnam is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has a communist government and it’s been under war since 1954. The country suffered from a lot of economic problems due to conflicts with its neighbors and other countries, but now things are getting better for Vietnam because they have joined WTO (World Trade Organization) which means that they can sell their products all over the world.

Vietnam has tropical climate with monsoon season rainy season, short dry season and long dry season which makes it hard for farmers to grow crops like rice or vegetables during these months but now there are climate change policies implemented by Vietnamese government so now farmers can plant more crops like coffee instead of rice which will help them get more money when selling their fruits or vegetables at markets outside city limits where prices are lower than inside city limits

On April 30, 1975, Saigon fell to the communists and South Vietnam's capital was renamed as Ho Chi Minh City.

On April 30, 1975, Saigon fell to the communists and South Vietnam's capital was renamed as Ho Chi Minh City. The end of the Vietnam War was a major event that changed history forever.

From July 1976, Vietnam became a unified nation under communist rule until now.

In 2005, the government began to acknowledge that its centrally planned economic policies were becoming increasingly inefficient.

In 2005, the government began to acknowledge that its centrally planned economic policies were becoming increasingly inefficient. The country was facing a shortage of skilled labor and experienced workers as well as an aging population with limited capacity to learn new skills or retrain. It also faced mounting foreign debt and rising interest rates on loans from foreign sources like the IMF and World Bank due to inflationary pressures caused by price controls on goods such as rice or eggs.

As part of this effort at reform, Vietnam's leaders decided to gradually introduce market-based reforms over time so that they could still maintain control over key aspects of their economy while making it easier for private business owners to operate within these new rulesets.[24]

After joining the WTO in 2007, Vietnam has become one of fastest-growing economies in the world today.

Vietnam is a country of diversity, color and beauty. It has remained the same with its picture of the past and continues to grow as a modern country in the 21st century.

Vietnam's economy has grown rapidly over recent years, with GDP per capita increasing by 7% per year on average since 2002. The average income increased from $1,900 in 2003 to $3,500 in 2010; after which it increased again by 3% in 2011 to reach an estimated value of $4200 per person (PPP).

Places to visit in Vietnam

Vietnam is a country with many different places to visit. Here are some of the most popular destinations:

Hanoi, also known as "The Red City" or "The Pearl of the Orient". It's very old and has lots of history to see in and around it. The best way to explore this city is by bike! You'll find many different kinds of cuisine there too.

Hoi An, which was once an important trading port for Vietnamese goods like silk fabrics and porcelain figurines made from clay which were traded all over Asia during ancient times (until about 1500 AD). There are still many historic buildings left standing today including one that used to house a school where students would learn how to read and write using Chinese characters instead of using Vietnamese ones like we do now...this was done so that everyone could read anything written back then without having any difficulties understanding what someone said because they didn't know much English yet either :) Haha! I wish I could have gone back again someday soon though; maybe next time :) You should definitely check out this town if you're looking forward going somewhere new but still want something familiar nearby too since it's only about 20 km away from Saigon city center itself!"
