Three activities for kids while working from home
Activities to keep kids busy while you work!
This school year has been one that looks like no other we have ever witnessed. In these weird times trying to work from home with kids running around—having a few activities for them in your back pocket is a necessity. That way when they come in for the 13,045th time to tell you that they are bored you have something to *hopefully* give you a few minutes of uninterrupted work time! How can this be done without sorcery!?!?! Allow me to share with you my magic—I mean activities!
Button bracelets
This one is pretty simple and if you are anything like me you have the supplies that you need on hand. All you need to grab are some pipe cleaners and buttons. If you don’t have pipe cleaners, you can use ribbon to make bracelets (or necklaces). Seriously that is it! This will provide some great creative time for your kiddos while they make EVERYONE they know a bracelet! This activity seems really simple but you can have your little ones working on colors, patterns, and of course fine motor skills—loading all of those buttons onto the ribbon or pipe cleaner. Simple to do and hours of fun!
Washi tape roads
Activity number two is a favorite in our house. This is great for rainy or cold days when you can’t (or won’t) go outside. You can lay out as many roads as you want to on carpet, tile, or hardwood. Washi tape comes off cleanly with no mess left behind—a parents dream. The only other supplies that you need are cars, small toy animals, or dolls/action figures. You can also have your kids help create their town or surprise them with it being laid out already! The ideas for this one are endless. Use your imagination and create stores, schools, and buildings all along the roads. Take this one outside when the weather is nice too! Create just as many roads and buildings with chalk in the driveway. Endless opportunities I tell ya!
Rainbow tie-dye masks
This one is a bit more involved for younger kids, but if you have older kids that can do it themselves or help out the little siblings that’s great. The supplies are white face masks, sharpies and rubbing alcohol. Lay out your mask on a safe work surface (we used a plate to keep everything off the table). Once you have it laid out you get to let their creative side go wild. Color shapes or designs on the mask as loud or as simple as you would like. Once you have all of your designs down fill up a small dish with rubbing alcohol and either drip it from a dropper or a small spoon onto the sharpie design. This will cause the marker designs to bleed into one another and create a tie-dye look! No one mask will look the same! Once the rubbing alcohol is dry run the masks through the washer and dryer and they are ready for wearing!
Creative hours of fun
I hope that no matter what age your kids are that you find a new activity for them to do here. Honestly being a 32-year-old kid myself *😬* I enjoyed each and every one of these activities! This is a great way for your kids to have some creative fun and will give you time to get some of that work done! Whew. Just remember when they are being tooooooo quiet it probably means something is being broken—or in my case walls are being drawn on…
