The boundless love a parent has for their child is matched only by their capacity to embarrass them.
Father's Day: Recognize, Not Idealize
My dad was a taxi driver. When I was little, he always had to leave home after dinner because he had to go to work for the night shift. One of the most memorable event that happened between me and my father when I was in kindergarten was that one night when my father was on the way out for work, I was already drifting asleep. But when I heard the metal door closed, I got up right away to rush to the door to say goodbye to my father, as I did every night. I got up so fast that I slammed my forehead onto the bed headboard and it bled all over my face. I cried so loud that everyone in the house, my mom, my sister, and even my father who had just gone out of the door had to return to come to see what happened. The bleeding was bad and because the cut was on the head, the amount of blood could look quite worrisome. But thinking back, as soon as the bleeding was stopped, it was actually not as serious as it looked. I didn't get a concussion or anything. The scar is still there today, just right above the hairline. A small batch of scalp that hair doesn't grow out. It was an event that family and relatives talked about and made fun of, and to say how much I loved my father.

The Beginning.
Today I woke up with a heavy heart. I am not too sure what transpired in my sleep last night, but I know I woke up feeling all the worry and doubt I’ve been trying so hard to overcome. All the questions that swirl in my head daily, all the worries of tomorrow, all the doubt that somehow, I’m just building myself up just for the result to be devastating.

I Disowned My Parents
No one expects their parents to get everything right, every time. I think we can all agree that sometimes our parents' flaws make them more relatable to us, and easier for us to talk to. A mom who panics when she loses track of time is a space for an anxious teen to find common ground. A dad who pushes you maybe a little too hard at something he thinks you love is a learning opportunity for you both. But sometimes our parents make decisions that cannot allow for growth or healing in either direction. And that is where the intersection of mental health and societal expectation happens.

Five important things I have learned from my mom, and then some
All my life my mother has always been my rock, and she always will be. My mom's life wasn't the easiest, but from all her hardships grew a beautiful soul. From an early age my mother showed signs of artistic genius. Even though her mother, father and siblings didn't realize it at first, and quite often was bullied by these same family members, mom later in life showed how determined she was through her gifts. In her late teen years she was accepted into the Parsons school of design in New York City. Mom could be herself there. She didn't have to face day-to-day ridicule from her parents or siblings.
