Family-themed art is a look into one's living room; it depicts celebration, crises, and the quiet moments of familial interactions.
Why does anybody need SIX pair of scissors?!
Let me tell you why… It was a wonderful spring morning. The barn was full of soft filtered light with a group of Angora goats to greet me. On the wall covered in a full year of dust, Scissors number one, my 100-year-old shearing scissors waiting for their next use. My goats standing before me hoping to be the first to have their heavy coats of hair cut from their bodies. I set out for a day of haircuts to turn them from a bunch of mop heads into a coiffured bunch of beauties.

hello everyone my name is Angela, I’m 36 years old with two beautiful children and a part time job .. but this isn’t where my story starts .. it all started when I was about 9 years old , during Christmas time my mother had her good’ol fashioned cookie recipe as always .. this was about the age she taught me to bake amongst other crafty things, I fell in love. Baking became absolutely fascinating to me .. I want to say by the age of 12 I was already learning to bake and use an oven properly .. at this moment ill never for get my first time trying to make homemade oatmeal cookies, I thought I had used the proper ingredients as needed I was so proud of my self at this point thinking wow I’m ganna have the hole family so proud of me too as I popped my balled up oatmeal cookies in the oven as a few min passed thinking I was baking as the time needed .. I took out my cookies from the oven only to notice they where still in large balls and very hot at this point as I try to smoosh them down .. I let them sit and cool as I looked for my mother in the house wanting to know y my cookies didn’t bake properly .. she came to the kitchen to notice my cookies still in a ball shape .. she asked what did you do .. of course I said I don’t know I thought I put all the proper ingredients I needed she giggled as she picked one up and said these are hard as a rock my family laughed .. it was hard to take in and a let down wanting to make the perfect cookies all by my self at the age of 12 .. but my mom just told me it’s ur first try practice makes perfect almost wanting to give up I didn’t, I pursued baking for the next few years as well as arts and crafts creating curing and glueing all kinds of this together for creative decorating .. by the time I graduated high school I felt like a professional decorating and baking for family birthday party’s .. by the time I had my first child in 2007 baking slowed down for me as having a full time job and child wasn’t easy but I never gave up my dreams a few years later I decided weekends would be my time to bake .. but all this baking was going no where and my family was burned out on all my sweet treats , so I decided to make a lil extra cash and do a bake sale but the honest truth is I was more excited for pe to try my baking then making money to the point where I would most of the time give my treats away for free instead of selling them , it made me feel so good inside. I eventually decided to move my bake sale to the streets I would be everywhere I walked in parking lots in side small business offering my treats at a low low price almost free .. at this point I’ve become so popular in my neighborhood that’s I had made business cards and the orders started rolling In, I couldn’t believe it the most happiest baking moment of my life .. although life has not been easy for me moving twice a year where ever I could afforded from state to state I never gave up on my dreams to own my own baking shop one day till this day I’m still working twords my dreams getting closer and closer and I’ve also have found ways to be creative enough to emerge my baking and my crafting all into one .. people from all over love my creative ideas , and deep down inside that makes me feel amazing to know people out there really love my stuff .. just know this, no matter how hard life gets for you or how old you are it’s never to late to give up on what makes you happy even if it’s not perfect because what might not be perfect to you in someone else’s eyes it’s a masterpiece. Practice makes perfect .. and baking is my happy and that alone is perfect enough . Thank you 🥰

We are all different; we did not fit in with the everyday household scissors, cutting open plastic and packages. We simply waited on the store shelf for the right, right-handed person to unleash our creative abilities. Eventually, a man came along in the craft store and plucked us from the shelf, all of us.

My most vulnerable state of creativity begins with a gray sketchbook, some scissors, and a fairly worn pen. This pen carries me to new horizons, and it leads me to ring out all the pent up emotions I have about feeling homesick for Chicago. Just last year, I moved from an apartment to stay with a family member in the outer suburbs. Doing so, I felt like I was lost from the usual routine I had developed and the freedom I possessed in my expression.

Growing up I soaked up the times when my mom, Amy, (who was an exceptional artist), would let me sit in her basement studio and watch her work on her marvelous creations.

Somethings in life make me happy. While other things in life make me sad. If you had to go around and ask people on what there passionet about what would they say? Maybe they would say, Sky diving, Or Bungie Jumping, Or Free Falling, Or maybe somthing bold, Or something totally scary. If that where me. I would say no to all of that. The thing in my life that I am most passionet about is all of my activites that I like to do. And not just I, Or me, But what Holly Like's to do. Wich is Knitting, And Coloring, And drawing, And Acting, Going out for plays. Why are there so many thing's you may ask? Because each and every thing that I just said has a special meaning to them. 1. My knitting, I love to knit because I love to always keep my self busy and my hands going all the time. If I am not moving all the time I am board. Also, After my dad had his stroak I learned that knitting was a big stress releiver for you to be doing. I read it from a flyer at the hospital that he was in. The other reasion on why I love to knit, Is because just knowing on how happy I can make other's feel when I give them my finished prduct really bring's joy to my life. It puts a smile on othere's faces. And really brighten's up there day. 2. How coloring make's me passionet is because, When I color I feel free. I feel like I am in charge. Like I can get to decide on what to do and how to do thing's in life. Because you are choosing on what colors you want. And how your picture is going to look. I feel like the world is at peace like it should be. I feel like I am on a wonderful vacation. That is where my drawing and coloring combine. The feeling what I get from my coloring, and drawing, And knitting, Is like that wonderful vatation feeling, The feeling of the warm sand, And the clear water, And the softness between your toes from the sand. The Beautifule trees, And the pretty flower,s Pink, And Purple and Spring. Also all of the animal sounds the birds how they chirp that beautifule song each morning as you wake up. That is the feeling that I get when I am knitting, Or Coloring, Or Drawing, It really sweeps me away and takes me on a vacation even though I am not. 3. I bet you are asking on how does going out for play's make me passionet? When I go out for plays, They make me feel happy, They make me feel on who I am, To where I can stand out and shine. To where I dont have to be afraid any more of life. I love going out for play's because, You are not alone or by your self any more. Even though you may not know any one at first. You will get to know them. And you will feel like family, And you will feel like you have friends. And someone you can count on. You will feel like you can spread your wings and fly. Like you are being lifted up in to the stars. Like you can prucue any dream that you have. Like you are famous and you are in HollyWood. One more reason on how going for plays makes me passionet, Is because I love being able to make others happy. And just being able to put a smile on someones face for a couple of nights until the play is over with. And until the next one begings. I love knowing that I have made a change in someones life. After all maybe someone had a horrable day. And for that one second you changed it all around. Because you where eithor in a play, Or you Drew them a nice picture, Or you colored them a picture, Or you took the time to knit them a scarf, Or a hat, Or fingerless gloves, Or a bow, that that they could where in there hair. Thoes are the things in my life that make me passionet.

On June 7th, 2019 I got the phone call no parent wants. My daughter had a mass removed, a cyst, "nothing to worry about" the doctor told us over and over again, about 3 weeks earlier. "I have good news in bad news. The bad news is your daughter has cancer, the good news is it is treatable. Any questions?"

My good scissors slice through watercolor paper, the initiation of putting together my babies' first art project. The items spread out on the table are cobbled together from years of art supplies. Some from my college days as a visual art student, a decade and more in my rear view. A few are from assisting my parents in building stock in their craftshow driven business. Most of my craft supplies come from my volunteer days with grief camp, a counselor of six and seven year olds who's main commonality was the death of someone dear to their hearts. Felt balls, pipe cleaners, foam letters, tiny, colorful clothespins.

My grandmother abhorred sewing. To this day she brags that the only sewing she ever did was as a nurse stitching up patients. My mother, Ann, learned to sew from her grandmother, my namesake, Grace. I don’t know who taught Grace to sew, but if her sewing machine could speak, it would have tales to weave of the miles of fabric she pieced together to create magnificent quilts that she shared with her family, friends, and the community. Her love of quilting was a legacy that she knew she needed to pass on.

Growing up, my family didn't have a lot of money, and any money we did have often went to essentials like groceries and bills. So when Halloween came around, or when I had a class presentation that required some kind of costume, I was often left to my own devices and had to get creative. I remember when I was about ten or eleven years old I had to give a presentation about one of the Greek Goddesses of Greek Mythology and was absolutely mortified at the thought of going to school without a costume, so I took an old long white bedsheet and took a pair of scissors and cut the sheet in half. I then proceeded to wrap myself in the sheet trying to imitate the look of a toga and took some safety pins and tried to secure the look. I then decided that I wanted to accessorize my look by adding blue and pink fabric to the sheets, this proved to be tricky since I didn't have a sewing machine and would have had no idea where to start even if I did have one, so I did what any ten or eleven-year-old kid would do and decided that tying the blue scarf around my waist and using the pink one as a shawl was the best option. I went to school the day of the presentation, proud of myself and what I had accomplished, and while the other store-bought costumes my classmates wore looked better than the one I had put together, I was still happy with what I had come up with. After that, I decided that I wanted to learn how to create and recreate costumes so I took a few sewing classes and learned that I had a real passion for it.

Mother, we meet again When I think of my mother, I immediately think of multiple women. Not that my mother hasn’t been enough, of course she has. But rather, I think of the idea of a mother – the guide, the nurturer, the comforter, to be a role numerous women have taken the title of over the years. The “mother” is thought of historically as someone who gives you life. Someone who brings you into this world. Personally, I think of “mother” as the person or persons who gives me reasons to still believe in life, at whatever frightful or fearless state I am in. She is collectively all the women who keep our fires burning, long after we take our first breath. She is the one who adds fuel to our fires when cruelty chokes us of our warmth.
