Once upon a time in Sweet Sweet Dreamland, there was a very sad and lonely little girl named Princess Rosebud. She was very sad and lonely because her mom and dad, the king and queen of Sweet Sweet Dreamland, worked during the night and slept during the day. They worked all night making sure that every person in Sweet Sweet Dream Land had sweet dreams.

The King and Queen loved Princess Rosebud very much and saw to it that she had every toy she wanted. She had dolls, teddy bears, blocks, tea sets, coloring books, and crayons. She loved to play in her room, but she was still sad and lonely because she didn’t have any friends.

Then one day while playing in her room she heard a noise coming from the garden. She went to her window and peeked out and saw a very tiny fluffy little kitten. Princess Rosebud watched the kitten as it chased a butterfly around the garden. She giggled when it flipped head over tail trying to catch the butterfly. She watched as the kitten pounced on her mom’s lilies that were growing in the garden. She laughed out loud when the kitten saw his reflection in a puddle and jumped into it because he thought was another kitten. And she decided to go play with the little kitten.

But she wasn’t supposed to go to the garden alone, so she decided to sneak out. She slowly opened the door, peeked out the crack, when the coast was clear she dashed down the hall, hid behind the suit of armor, and waited for the butler to pass. Then made her way down the hall to the top of the steps and hid behind a tapestry while a couple of chambermaids scurried past on their rounds. Then she sprinted down the steps, and out the side door to the garden.

When she got to the garden, she ran to get the kitten, but it was nowhere to be found. She looked under the bush, in the lilies, behind the roses, even up the apple tree, still no kitten. She got on her hands and knees and looked under a great big blueberry bush and saw a pair of shoes. Attached to those shoes was the gardener and in his arms was a basket full of kittens.

“What are you doing out here Princess?” the gardener asked the little girl.

“I saw the kitten from my window and wanted to play with it,” replied Princess Rosebud.

“My cat, Tilly just had kittens, now I’m gathering them up to give them a home. While I was working this little guy escaped from the basket.” explained the man.

“Can I have one?” asked Princess Rosebud.

“Well, we will have to ask the King and Queen first, Princess.” Answered the gardener.

“Thank you, Mr. Hamme!” Exclaimed the girl.

After the king and queen told Princess Rosebud, she could have the kitten she went back to the gardener and he gently handed him over, and she took him back to her room. As she played with the little kitten, she thought of what to name him.

“You don’t look like a George or a Henry. What about Whiskers?” Said the princess. She named the kitten Prince Whiskers.

The tiny kitten was so small she was afraid she would lose him, so she picked up one of her teddy bears and took off a gold bell from its neck and found a blue ribbon she used in her hair and tied the ribbon and bell to the kitten’s neck.

Princess Rosebud wasn’t quite so sad and lonely anymore.
