It feels like yesterday when my baby was born. Time flies so quickly. she turned six months old last week. It was a huge milestone and we celebrated it by making the baby laugh all day. A laughing baby is one of the best things in the world. Our baby has become so active and she gets hungry frequently. I made a feeding routine for her because it is important to keep a check that the baby is provided with all the nutrients and introduced to all types of new flavors. However, milk is still the primary source of food for the baby, whether it's breastmilk or formula milk.

In this article, I will share my sixth-month-old baby's feeding routine and some tips on what to avoid, because when babies are introduced to solids, they start having digestion issues and acid reflux problems which can make life miserable for parents.

Introduce Vegetables First

We introduced vegetables to our baby when she was only four months old, one vegetable puree at a time. Now when she is six months old, she eats puree of mixed vegetables four times a week. These vegetables include green beans, zucchini, eggplant, carrot, potato, sweet potato, peas, and butternut squash. I mix three vegetables for example boil green beans, carrots, zucchini, add a bit of salt or any other spice accordingly, and then make its puree. Voila!

Something Sweet

Along with vegetables, give fruit puree to your baby. Fruits like apples, bananas, peach, strawberry, pineapple, and apricots are good sources of nutrition and they make the baby really happy because of the sweet taste. Parents should avoid introducing fruit first because then the baby won't like vegetables much and would incline more towards the sweet purees. If I'm giving apple or peach puree, then first I steam it a bit so it can be soft, also it is better to peel the apple. Apart from that, if your baby is suffering from constipation, then apple, pineapple, and pear purees are the best options to make them poo in peace.

Something Solid

Babies should only eat food in pureed form from 6–8 months but some solid food like pureed rice, semolina, and Museli should be introduced to them as well. This type of food can cause constipation when the baby is getting used to them but they are extremely healthy and helps in their growth. At first, I gave my baby just one recipe puree, then I started to experiment. For example, I cook rice in chicken stock along with a tiny piece of chicken, then I make its puree. Another combination is adding any fruit puree to the Museli or semolina. It becomes sweet and incredibly delicious for the baby and they just love it.

Feeding real food seems really simple but trust me, making a baby eat food is complicated because they will try to take the spoon from you and put their hand in the bowl. Sometimes they refuse to open their mouth. Surely they will drive you crazy but it's such a joyous event when your baby finishes the whole bowl.
