Autumn is a unique time of the year that provides numerous memorable family adventures. Even though the weather varies from warm and sunny days to cool ones with a friendly nip in the air, there are plenty of activities that can be enjoyed with your children. The moments parents spend with their children during the fall months provide precious life-long memories. With so many fun family adventures available, there are many ways to embrace good times.

Here are some popular ideas.

1. Make a few trips to a local farm on separate days and plan to do special things during each visit. Visit the apple orchard to pick and sample apples together on one trip. Go to the flower orchard during another visit to pick bunches of beautiful flowers for your home. Walkthrough the pumpkin patch with a wheelbarrow to select pumpkins to carve and decorate the home. Another farm visit could be devoted to purchasing fall home decorations like cornstalks and hay bales and well as stocking up on fresh produce to enjoy.

2. Plan to prepare a few family recipes together with some of the fresh fruits and vegetables from the farm. Things like candied apples and popcorn balls are fun and tasty treats to make. Plus, children are a great big help in the kitchen.

3. Take an evening hayride together that includes excursions things like a campfire for roasting hotdogs or making smores as well as sipping warm apple cider.

4. Enjoy a family hike on a nature trail to develop a deep appreciation for the outdoor environment.

5. Go on a long drive in rural areas together for the exclusive purpose of viewing the beautiful and colorful fall foliage.

6. Attend sporting events together to cheer on favorite teams. Among these events can be college games to help children begin to make plans for a future filled with educational promise.

7. Safely participate in outdoor costume parties, Halloween activities, or harvest adventures together. Another alternative is to host a similar virtual event.

8. Make leave raking a fun family event. Add music and play hard.

9. Show kindness to elderly and sick neighbors and friends. Share some of the bounties from farm visits with them. Arrange miniature flower bouquets and small baskets of apple baskets and homemade goods to deliver to them.

10. Attend outdoor thematic festivals traditionally held during this time of the year. This includes amusement parks that have opened for the season. Sample the delicious food offerings and participate in the family activities associated with these events.

11. Go on a camping trip together. This can also include camping in the backyard. Stargazing and storytelling can make these family moments extra special in front of a campfire or fire pit.

12. Visit the local library or bookstore together to select seasonal books. Parents should plan times to read these stories with their children.

13. Plan a movie night to watch appropriate movies together. This can include popcorn and other traditional movie snacks. Another alternative is to go to the drive-in together. For added fun, a family pajama night can be added.

14. Use art to capture autumn reflections. Families can paint, color, and sketch together. Doing so outdoors makes these activities more authentic.

15. Make delicious Halloween treat bags to donate to places like assisted living facilities, homeless shelters, and detention centers for young people.

16. Enjoy the outdoors with animals. This can include places like nature preserves, the zoo, or simply visiting and walking animals from an animal shelter.
