In his article, he wrote, titled 5 career tips from a CEO to his millennial children, Jonas Prising discusses his powerful financial advice to his own children.

As a mother myself, I felt the need to share this, hoping it to reach the younger generation, caregivers, and parents. His perspective shaped the way I prepare my children in regards to improving and strengthening their career mindset to suit this changing era. His article highlights the new reality we live in and dives into the ever-changing perspective of the new generation on education, career, and higher studies.

It is no doubt that the younger generation lives in a digitally orientated era. There is a greater demand now more than ever to strive to constantly improve and update our skills to keep up with the competition and expectation of society, especially when it comes to work and career. The following are important points to consider when teaching your children how to succeed in this digitalized world.

Keep Your Options Open

Prising highlights the importance of teaching the younger generation to keep their options open.

He advises taking advantage of work experience opportunities earlier in life. This is key in building on your skills and exploring new ideas. We live in a constantly changing world that requires us to change and adapt to new social and work environments. Our success heavily relied on our ability to adapt faster to changing environments and use the skills we learn.

Gone are the days where we view work as that stable source of emotional and financial security. It has never been more important than now to enable the new generation to enter the workforce earlier on and experiment with different work settings and fields.

I remember when I was 17, there was strong pressure to choose the career field to enter college. We were not empowered with the skills and experience to make life-changing moves and decisions. Since then, I have entered multiple universities and changed my career multiple times because the teachings and expectations to choose were wrong.

In our generation, it was expected for us at an early age to find our calling, get into college, and be restricted to one field. How many of us changed the career we chose back before college.

Master Learnability

Mastering the skill of learnability is that needs to be learned and practiced. IF the younger generation succeeds at using the principle of learnability, they will become more adaptable and expand their skills and networks.

Prising defines learnability as:

-the desire and ability to adapt your skills to remain employable.

I don’t mean employable only from a corporate viewpoint. It also applies to those who choose to work from home. Entrepreneurs and freelancers are also required to master learnability as it helps them stand out among the competition and attract more clients.

Teach your younger ones to easily adapt to life’s changing circumstances so they will be more equipped to succeeding.

It is important for the new generation to understand not to restrict themselves as they too will evolve and change their mindset as they age.

Now is the time to get out and experiment with work experience, placements and temporary jobs that enable them to use their creativity and be introduced to different settings.

Take Advantage of Technology

The new generation needs to take advantage of technology and continue learning about the new technological updates and skills.

This will open the doors for them for further advancements since they are entering an age where technological knowledge is key to career success.

It is now becoming normal for children and youth as young as 8 years old to take online courses in app development and coding.

This highlights the importance of developing and learning the skills that are needed to advance in this technology-driven era.

Stand Strongly For Your Values

The author highlights the importance of standing strong behind your morals and values and aligning them with your work.

We live in a somewhat positive and global era since it is now more important to support businesses, individuals, and companies that stand for community values.

Values such as practicing volunteering, supporting the environment, and promoting overall wellness for the world are a priority for many. Young employers are more likely to support other companies that help in the community.

This is becoming more apparent with the vegan movement, minimalism, and sustainable lifestyles.

Teach them to stand strong for their values and work ethics, and they will be rewarded greatly for it in the long run.

Teach Them The Art of Balance

In order to succeed, there is a strong need to adopt a more balanced life. This helps in overall wellness, which leads to both personal and career success.

Empower them to make the right choices regarding the people with who they work and interact.

It is important to work with people who are positive and thrive for optimism and diversity in both their choices and interactions with others. This will allow them to gain wisdom, insight, and inspiration from their social circle, which results in a greater chance for career success.
