If I Were a Kid Again

A List

Have you ever thought "If I could just be a kid again..."? I have, quite frequently as of late. I found myself asking What would be on your bucket list? What would you change? Is it a short list? A long list? Would you change anything at all?

Would you savor certain moments? Say different words? Hold back? Push? Pull? Run or stay?

What even defines being a 'kid'? Is it until you're in Middle school? High school? Until you're 18, or when you move out of your parent's house? Perhaps those answers vary depending on who you talk to.

1. I'd read so many more books, knowledge is powerful and as you get older you tend to forget that

2. Draw everyday; build my arsenal of skills. Observe from real life. It'll serve you well.

3. Spend more time with my gramma, make more memories to hold onto. Write those memories down. As we get older things fade.

4. Stop sleeping in until noon in the summer. Too much daylight’s been slept away.

5. Mow the lawn for mom. Mom’s are super heroes but even heroes need help too.

6. Help my sister with her homework more, mom’s out at her second job and can’t help with fractions and decimals.

7. Be a better sister. Listen, be kind, understand and never say you hate them.

8. Go to more of my brother’s baseball games. It's not an excuse that you hate baseball.

9. Write more stories- its fun to look back at them and see how much I've grown.

10. Told my dad I loved him and want him to get better

11. Joined a sport, found something I enjoyed

12. Worn more dresses- cause frig pants.

13. Decided to be comfortable in my skin- no more hoodies and sweatpants in the summer.

14. Learn to cook for myself- mom's busy and won't be around forever. As much as I wish she could be.

15. Stop! Don't throw away your manuscript just because you're upset.. that's two years of work!

16. Save your money. You're gonna need it for more important things than Hubba Bubba Bubble Gum.

17. Spend your time more wisely. Learn about saving, investing, and being an entrepreneur. It'll save you a lot of hassle, kid.

18. Do my lemonade stand more in the summer. It's a great way to make some money, but it also will help with skills- like counting money, giving change, customer service skills, and the drive to succeed.

19. But also to slow down. Enjoy being a kid. Stop being so afraid.

20. Don't take things at face value. Do your own investigating, your own research. Let yourself come to your own conclusions.

21. Take more summer art classes, instead of sitting around doing nothing alone.

22. Take more pictures. Pictures of yourself, of your pets, family, friends. Just take more pictures.

23. Show or express your gratitude. Sometimes you don't realize how little you've thanked someone in your life until it's too late. So take every chance you can get to say thank you. Be sincere and raw. People deserve to know you appreciate them.

24. Thank the people around you. Thank them for helping, for being there, for anything and everything that you feel needs to be thanked.

25. Write down things throughout the day that made you happy.

Perhaps this list seems long. Maybe you think it short.... What would your list be?
