How the Foster System Uses Children

A study of non-fiction accounts that overstepped boundaries and trampled familial bonds, and the manipulative foster families that treat the kids as paychecks; tragedy and exploitation alike.

Foster care system offers little but bleak opportunity, abuse, death and permanently damaged life outlook.

Probably one of the most notorious examples that you may find stands prominently amongst the rest, in firm testament of just how negatively the system could impact a child, to the point where this was normalized. The child we are talking about is no doubt, successful in her endeavors today and whom many hope continues writing; her name- Cupcake Brown. Author of A Piece of Cake she was seemingly just another case in the California Foster system, but a beautiful and vibrant character in the book, you'd think it was a novel. An uncovered truth with a strong voice; too wild to be fiction! Her character grew up in LA under her mother and known to be father who had cared and assisted financial in every way a father should. When her mother died, things truly took a turn for the worst. She knew immediately what death was, and the foster system is no place for a smart child-to witness it's shortcomings. She left weeks after being place, following her rape by an employee of the foster mother Diane, skipped on telling her prior absentee biological father and never looked back. The rest is equally tragic, several home changes, electricity stealing, drug dealing and coping behaviors resulted in a couple of incidences resulting in jail, prostitution and addiction; not to mention a couple of trips to the clinic for terminations of pregnancy. She was also, a 'lucky one' who found her calling in family law.

This is the result of using social workers with no clue of who the family is, with a complete lack of training in research, the state of the law profession, and their preparedness to handle the jobs at hand. It happened to me. I was completely mishandled and it cause a complete severance at birth in which I was only granted a visit or two per week to feed my newborn. The effects which I have been left with, may last a lifetime but we were privileged and lucky, and she was returned however it doesn't mean it was an any less mismanaged case.

Other families and children are still not so lucky, undergoing years of court battles and navigating through trauma, post-partum and post-traumatic alike within short court appearances and drug testing and counseling used against the clients instead of for the children. It is well known that any battle should be immediately denied if the privileges' exist of likely parents able to care for the children- but what if one of the parents discounts their ability with questionable (but otherwise unbeknownst) validity? A guardian ad-litem is the best known solution because the social workers will listen to advice that helps them gain ground in case completion without the need to switch to another social worker and everything you say can and will devastatingly be used against you and in many cases the children. This can and will be used in the opposite cases, what happens when children go back home to parents in care that have outwitted the system in terms of passing drug tests- what happens when the mother and father are married but are able to pass off the abuse to another victim? The children are the real victims and this sort of behavior completely applies to foster families who rely on this income to potentially fund endeavors relevant to achieving the American dream, again at the expense of exploiting the children and the system, with little mind of their own degradation- who will end up paying these costs?

The less than fortunate ones. Who is Tori Robinson? A victim to the foster care system being exploited by Ariel Robinon, was beaten to death at the home she was adopted. Had anybody done any amount of research into the content of the comedian's routine, they'd have found how sinister her jokes about covering up the cages of the other children before the Social Worker arrived, proved to be.

Just as one would consider that foster families end up manipulating the system, what about the system manipulating the foster families? Where did the children captured at the border end up going? How many ended up in caring homes? How many died? How many suffered and will forever remember trauma suffered at the hands of the US Foster system? These instances must absolutely be cleared up before we condemn the suffering of those who know not guilt and know not innocence. We must care for the entire spectrum of the children suffering.
