My husband and I spent last weekend with family. One son that is 48 had his first child last year. His little girl turned one on Saturday and they had a birthday party for her. We had given up on this son having children and that was okay as he is just one of our 7 children.

We visited with other grandchildren at the birthday party also.

The one-year-old did not want to touch the cake with her fingers as is meant to be on this momentous occasion. A daughter wouldn’t either and that brought back so many fun memories.

This daughter is 48 years old also and has yours, mine, and our family. She and her husband have 8 children. She did not like sticky stuff on her hands either.

The following day we had a dance recital to attend. Another son we thought would not have children, had a daughter 3 years ago. He is 44 years old now and will be 45 in July. The dance recital was for his three-year-old that is taking tap and ballet lessons. So cute!!

The three-year-old was happy to have us spending the night and going to the recital. She loved the sticker book we gave her so much that she had stickers all over her arms, like tattoos. So much fun!

We thought we were done having grandchildren with twenty-four and now there are two more. Not sure yet if these 40-somethings will have more children, but I haven’t ruled them out yet.

It is probably up to the moms who are now, both in their late 30s.

We have ten great grandchildren and I know this list will be growing. We have one little girl on the way that is due in June. We have many grandchildren now that are old enough for children, so anytime now it could be an explosion of great-grandchildren.

I am so grateful to be alive to spend time with family.

Grandchildren are such a blessing and so much fun. Their grandpa loves all 26 grandchildren, even though only 4 of our 7 children are his bio children, he treats them all the same.

It is great to be married to someone who has the same family values that I do. He is the better grandparent too as he can keep up with them in ways that I can’t. Even though an 8-year-old granddaughter tells him, “You are not supposed to run Grandpa, remember, you have new knees!”

I think she heard Grandma tell him that as it sounds familiar.

I enjoy writing about the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in stories and poems/rhymes. Below are a couple of Diamantes.

Kids

Wonderful, cherished

named, persuaded, photographed.

Babies, Toddlers, Boys, Girls,

smiley, hungry, twirls

Cutest, silly

Children

Teens

Sleepy, lovely

quarrel, anxious, justify

adolescent, minor, tween, teenybopper

Educated, entertained, showstopper

Wholesome, wonderous

Teenager

One of our older boys is raising his grandchildren. They are so cute and while there he and I beat Grandpa at a shooting game. He said, “Grandma won twice, I won twice, and Grandpa one just one time!”

The great-granddaughter wanted me to see the house she was building on her game. Then once we got into it, she didn’t want to stop until her grandma made her put it away.

As we were driving back from a Recovery Roundup where we spent time with a couple of our children and many friends in recovery from the past and present, Grandpa got a phone call from our 17-year-old grandson.

He just wanted to know if he could come and hang out. I answered Grandpa’s phone as he was driving as his phone isn’t connected to the car like mine is.

I told our grandson that we would be home in a couple of hours and that he could for sure stopover. He said he will and I hung up. Grandpa then told me that he calls when he wants to catch up with where he is at with body building.

He has made it a habit of letting Grandpa know every time there is a change in his body-building goals. And his grandpa loves that!

I let my daughter know that a couple of her children can spend the night as she is working nights this weekend and the kids don’t go back to school until Tuesday. Grandpa is getting the grass mowed now so he is free to play when the grandkids get here. Probably after a nap.

Grandchildren are so much fun and great-grandkids are the best!

Dear 'D' ~ So who's NOT a proud Great-Granny ~ NOT YOU ~ Lovely that you've chosen such a joyous life path. *I can only think with all of those at the dinner table - Grab fast or you're left with nothing in our family - I've just written a Short 'Am I Choosing UP?' with the theme that there are so many that search for their IT. I believe you may relate with the path that you've chosen. 'J' Jay Kantor, Chatsworth, California 'Senior' Vocal Author - Vocal Author Community -
