Your Best Guide to Must Have Baby Shower Gifts

So, a girlfriend asked me the other day what my go to baby products were so she could create a little gift basket for a friend of whom was expecting as a baby shower gift. After chatting about it, she expressed that I really should post these products to share my experiences and explain why these are my favourite products and also some items that not everyone thinks about but they are the things that you use every day.

Forget giving the stuffed animals (that will only sit and gather dust for months to a year until the child is old enough to play with them or even notice them) and forget the really out there products that a first time mum isn't going to be quite sure how to use. These products below are what I would use every single day, and I highly recommend whether you are a first time mum and not sure of what you may need or you are looking to get the perfect gift for a mum to be that she will really appreciate and actually use.

You would have seen me post constantly about this before. I legit use it with almost every feed, every single day. It is so easy to use and not only helps with a healthy supply, but also helps you build a great supply in your freezer for later use. That way if for whatever reason you need to stop breastfeeding, or your baby prefer to take a bottle, you can continue to use that built supply to give your baby all that delicious liquid gold. For more information on the Haakaa, you can check out my review on the link above.

For those already mums out there you know what I mean when I say that trying to cut your precious newborn’s nails to save them from attacking your chest and their little face. I remember when I first had Gabriella and she would have been around 2 weeks old and I attempted to cut her nails with the nail scissors, she wiggled and moved her little hand and I had cut the skin and cue that innocent newborn scream and her little finger oozed out with blood. I swore I would never cut them like that again and would only chew and pull the nails down so they weren't long and sharp. S then when Lorenzo came along, there was no way I was going to use scissors on his nails. I purchased the Haakaa nail care set when Lorenzo was only a couple of weeks old and it is a game changer for cutting infants nails! It files the nails down leaving them smooth on the ends to prevent any unwanted scratches and will save you during feeding times. It consists of two different speeds and rotation directions also, along with five different trimmer pads to use as your little one gets older. It even has a metal trimmer pad so you can do your own nails! It is gentle on the skin and you won’t ever have to worry about cutting your baby again.

Bath Thermometer

Now this is something that every parent needs but always forgets! Little ones’s skin is so sensitive that you need to ensure that you have the bath water the perfect temperature. The ideal temperature for an infant is between 36-38 degrees. Now personally for me, if I put my hand in water at that temperature, it feels too cool for me. If I didn't have a thermometer to advise of this, I would make the water so much warmer and risk burning my little man. They are a very inexpensive item and you can pick them up from practically any store starting from around $10.

These work similar to the Haakaa breast pump, however are more convenient for feeds on the go. The fit comfortably inside your bra and collect all that liquid gold through your let down or leaking breasts. They are super handy to leave in your baby bag or handbag for use while you are out to protect your clothing from any leaks and stains. They are super inexpensive, reusable, eco friendly and also dishwasher and steriliser safe.

This is my absolute go to! I used an amber necklace with Gabriella from around 8 weeks and she never and I will say again NEVER whinged for teething, disturbed her sleep routine, nothing! I hands down vouch for this product so highly. I have started using one again for Lorenzo at 11 weeks as he was starting to drool constantly from his teeth and it has already subsided the drool drastically. You can get so many different styles and colours of the amber beads to suit the personality of your bub.

Now this would be my absolute favourite product of them all. Eco friendly reusable breast pads that are also leak proof too! They are perfect for use for those inevitable leaks during pregnancy and through breastfeeding your baby. They are made from 3 layers which creates a super soft barrier. They are gentle on delicate skin and so easy to just pop in the wash for future use. Bamboo Basix offer two different sizes (10cm or 12cm) personally I have the 12cm pads to give more coverage. The set comes with 7 pairs of bright different coloured breast pads, a carry bag and also a delicates bag for you to wash them in too. I highly recommend having two or three sets in rotation – especially if you are a leaker like myself as you’ll find yourself needing to change them a couple times a day depending on how bad you leak.

As you would have read on my previous blog post, I am obsessed with the Our Joey range! These suits make the perfect little gift for either your bub or to include in a nice gift basket for your mama to be friend. Made from GOTS certified materials, they are so soft and delicate for your baby. Including four lovely pastel colours to choose from, along with matching headbands or beanies and swaddles, it would be the perfect gift.
