Fetty Wap must contend with his daughter's death due to complications from cardiac arrhythmia a few months ago. The mother of the fallen child, Turquoise Miami, alleges that Fetty didn’t show up in the young girl’s life enough.

She says he shed crocodile tears after their 4-year-old, Lauren, perished. She claims the rapper didn’t bother to call, he was away from Lauren’s life, and he knew she was unhealthy, despite her young age.

According to Turquoise, Fetty just called a couple times a year, if that, so if the platinum artist is grieving the fact that he wasn’t in Lauren’s life, he should remember he could have been.

Fetty expressed his own memories of his deceased daughter, saying she enjoyed butterflies. But Turquoise says the child didn’t like butterflies as much as mermaids, and detailed how her daughter asked her to buy all kinds of mermaid apparel and accessories, and to watch the film The Little Mermaid over and over again.

Turquoise argues that Fetty’s claim to have titled his latest project The Butterfly Effect in honor of Lauren, is ironic given her penchant for mermaids, and his meager contact with their daughter.

Is this another example of a father so caught up in the criminal world and hip-hop that he failed to pay adequate attention to his child? Tragically, Fetty cannot rewrite the past. Lauren has died, and he will have to grieve for her, and the relationship they might have had, but didn’t, during her short life. He can, however, improve and become a better father to his four other children, with four other women besides Turquoise.

If Fetty doesn’t change his chaotic ways, and continues to be dedicated to stupidity, rather than fatherhood, he may experience more grief in the future. At a minimum, he won’t leave much in the way of a positive legacy for his remaining children.

In an Instagram post, Fetty said he’s dealing with “real s___.” This may be a reference to being out on bail for drug trafficking charges from a few months ago. It’s unlikely he’s talking about his grief for Lauren since he hasn’t really contradicted Turquoise’s claims that he didn’t spend enough time with her before she died.

While he may be battling legal woes, the world is looking at him with increased scrutiny because of the grieving mother’s accusations.

What Fetty ought to do is take seriously his role as a father, and work hard to concern himself with fighting for his freedom during his trial.

While out on bail, he should focus his attention on his work and his remaining children.

The time spent with his offspring is of such crucial importance, and Lauren’s death should be the wake-up call he needs to be the best father he can be, because life is short, and tragedy can strike at any time.

He should now be better able to foresee the pitfalls other musicians and entertainers have struggled with in the past.

What the artist ought to do is know that he still has a supporter base who is financing not only his lifestyle, but the lives of his remaining children. He ought to not fail at the idea of producing more songs to keep the deposits rolling in to keep those babies’ mouths fed. For his brushes with the law, he should have a war chest ready.

It won’t get any sweeter as long as Fetty continues sticking to this mindframe of alleged crime, neglect, and overall irresponsibility.

If Fetty is supposed to be an artist and father, he should seek ways to handle both aspects of his life. He can, and he should approach his career, and role as father, with equal measures of care and diligence. His childrens’ lives depend on them.
