Although the “Park” isn’t what it is used to be, there are still many fun things to do there in the summer. Some have expressed a need to travel and get out of the house this summer. With minimal social distancing and some careful planning, you can make the most of your summer getaway to Palisades Park, NJ, this summer. We’re here to help.
What’s more, even as close as Palisades Park, NJ is to New York City; it has a very low crime rate. Only six in 1000 are victims of property or violent crimes in the city. That’s lower than 80 percent of American communities, according to Neighborhood Scout.
Visit Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty
As a kid, we drove passed the Statue on the George Washington Bridge (GWB) several times. However, I never got to see her up-close until I was 40 years old, in the Army, and heading to Belgium.
We had to ship our car from Bayonne, NJ, the Army’s central vehicle transportation spot. We stayed a couple of days and toured Ellis Island, the Statue, and a few other attractions I will tell you about.
Your best bet to ensure you get to do everything your Palisades Park, NJ, and New York, NY trip entails is to contact Dillinger’s, your personal tour organizer for small intimate groups. You can see Ellis Island, Lady Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, Central Park, and much more.
Sunset Cruise Around Ellis Island
There are perhaps no more historical views than Lady Liberty, Ellis Island, the GWB, and the Brooklyn Bridge. You and your family can board the sunset cruise for 60 minutes, leaving from Pier 15 and enjoy the NY City skyline, Manhattan Island, the One World Trade Center, and a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty because the ferry goes within 100 feet of the Island where she stands.
Contact Statue Walks for tour information and tickets that start at $29.
The First-Ever New Jersey Drive-In Concert
A show featuring “Southside” Johnny & the Asbury Jukes will take place on 11 July 2021. This will be the first-ever of its kind in New Jersey and could warrant a visit by “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen.
Although he is not booked to appear, he has frequently appeared at summer concerts with Southside Johnny in the past, particularly in July. Well, because he was Born in the USA.
The Boss recently did an unannounced virtual appearance at Fenway Park with the Boston area band, the Dropkick Murphys. As most fans know, Asbury Park is just a few minutes from the Bosses home, and if he appeared in Boston, even virtually, he’s almost “shore” to join his Asbury friends.
The “Drive-In” is a live event, rain or shine. For all the details and ticket information, check the Count Basie Drive-in website or the Monmouth Park site. A portion of the drive-in concert proceeds will benefit the New Jersey Pandemic Fund and Count Basie’s Center for the Arts.
The Hatchet House
Do you fancy yourself a “Highlander” or a Viking? Perhaps an afternoon of ax throwing with a few friends is what your Celtic soul calls for right now. If not, get the entire family together for a game of paintball. The fun never stops at the Hatchet House. Well, of course, it’s all competitive fun.
You can find the Hatchet House on 157A Main St in Hackensack, near Palisades Park, NJ.
