Chapter 3

Big Shorty and Dinky-G heard the beat of "Gangsta-Gangsta" from N.W.A. coming from the speakers. They walked into the living room and were surrounded a potent cloud of smoke that were heavy from the blunts that were being smoked at the card table near the front door. As the Gangstas walked in and were getting accustomed to the atmosphere, Big Shorty gave a quizzical smile as he saw the Lords smoking dro and playing spades. "Almight!! Almight!!," came from the Lords at the card table. It was well known that only the Lords used that word.

Demont had his place set up in what was a normal set up for a ghetto barbeque. A few card tables and lawn chairs were in the yard next to the grill. On the patio stood coolers of liquor. Big Shorty made his way to the back of the townhouse and opened the screen door of the patio. Walking out onto the patio, he greeted Demont with a nod. "What's up Big Shorty, you hungry?", asked Demont. Demont was twenty years old, a half-breed who looked like a college kid. He was not a gangmember, but was associated with everyone in the neighborhood. He looked down on Big Shorty and smiled through tinted shades.

Without waiting for a reply, Demont reached over to the picnic table and grabbed a plastic plate. "Yeah, slap me some ribs on a plate.", said Big Shorty. Demont already dipping into the aluminum pan full of grilled ribs into a pot that held seasoned barbeque sauce, then placed them onto a plate and gave the plate to Big Shorty. Inside, the aroma of the barbeque was like an elecric power surge to Jello, as if it jump-started all of his senses, putting his taste buds in full alert. Walking through the living room towards the patio door, he tripped over an area rug and fell into the screen door, knocking it off it's track.

In his quest to reach the barbeque, he quickly grabbed the handle to the screen door and lifted it back onto it's track. Then he opened the door and saw Big Shorty with a plate of ribs in front of him. Jello licked his lips and yelled out, "Me too, Demont!" Dinky-G's attention was on the beer in the coolers. While he held a bottle of beer in one hand, he danced around the patio as if it were a stage. He moved in rhythm to the music, then he knelt down and reached over to a girl named Tasha, who was sitting in a lawn chair next to the coolers of beer. She was wearing a revealing mini-skirt, so Dinky-G took a glance at the gap between her thighs and saw some red panties with an imprint of a tampon string that looked like a donkey's paw.

"How are you doing, Tasha?", he asked. Tasha replied with, "I'm doing just fine. Please don't get drunk and represent the fool that you're known to be and why you have that little boy with ya'll?" "Big Shorty's the leader of the next generation to come.", replied Dinky-G. "You are not a role model, especially with Day-Day being the shot-caller for the Gangstas in Eden Green.", stated Tasha. Her hazel eyes were fixed on his braided beard. On her face, she wore a cordial expression of a diplomat and it was worn more like a mask than a smile. The crowded backyard was filled with the starburst radiance of the sky. Tasha caught Dinky-G's eyes staring between the opening of her skirt, which revealed her womanhood. She slid a hand down to cover herself.

The large number of people outside became slightly silent when Charles, the ringleader of the Stones, came through the screen door. He was skinny, brash and known as the shot-caller out of the Golden Gates Projects. Although, the evening was conducive to peaceful conversations among the guests, Big Shorty was shocked to see Charles and he knew that there would be some sort of disturbance. He had not seen Charles since the day Charles shot at Top-Cat. That had been some time ago... The guests scorn and attention was on Charles as he took advantage of the liguor in the cooler. They knew that this would come back to haunt them.

Day-Day leaned up against the side of the townhouse. He was with a group attractive women that were off the chain. There was little doubt that the ladies loved him, as they flirted and played with the diamonds on his jewelry. Day-Day slapped one of the woman on their butt, then grinned at Big Shorty. The woman was wearing skin-tight purple capri pants and was speaking into Day-Day's ear saying, "Come on, I have something for you." As she placed her hand over his necklace. It was obvious to her that Day-Day had prestige and clout, along with plenty of cheddar, all of which usually went hand in hand. They left the barbeque to whereabouts only those two would know.
