As we return to normalcy in our lives, we begin to wonder when we will return to the office. Teleworking has ceased to be something exceptional to become part of the day to day , and is that, many companies have joined the hybrid work model, limiting the presence of their employees in the office to only two or three days a week . The companies believe this assistance is necessary, even if it is only for a few days, to generate that team spirit that would not occur if everyone works in isolation.

A new paradigm in which companies have prioritized the safety and health of the environment in the workplace and in which, in addition, they have understood the demands and needs of their employees, who have been asking for flexibility regarding when and where they work for a long time. . A scenario that forces the redesign of offices to enable work activity and social interaction that cannot take place at home.

“Although in recent months many companies have verified that it is possible to work from home, the real value of the office has also become evident, as the only setting that enables connection and interaction between people. Social interaction that cannot take place at home ”, adds Camilo Agromayor, general director of Ofita.

The office loses prominence as a fixed workplace and a specific task to become a space for co-creation and personal relationships , as a showcase for the brand and its culture. In this way, it changes the design of the offices to adapt to the new functions while motivating and promoting the well - being of its employees, who demand safer, more humane offices and with more informal spaces.

A new reality in which the debate on emotional management in the work environment and the need for companies to help improve the psychological health of workforce affected by the health crisis has also been uncovered. The office should make it easier for employees to work and make them feel safe. For this, there are three key trends that we must take into account:

Collaborative spaces

1 /3

Sending emails or filling in forms will be a job that we will not do in the office, which will remain as a space for collaboration. Within these, informal spaces and spaces for innovation are on the rise . Cafes, libraries, living areas or recreational spaces have replaced the traditional meeting rooms, with the aim of offering more comfortable spaces to employees while promoting socialization.

"In these spaces the employee can either take a break or continue working, but in a more relaxed way, either individually or with other colleagues." They are much more welcoming and fun design spaces , "and these are important because the environment greatly influences our motivation and productivity in our daily work," says Ofita's CEO.

Spaces that, in addition to requiring a pleasant and beautiful design, must be productive. Therefore, they must have the same services as a conventional workplace, with access to communications, energy and technology, while having surfaces designed to work. Change the image of the office that we had by disappearing tables, chairs and filing cabinets and introducing mobile whiteboards, bleachers, furniture to work standing up ...

In short, a trend towards more humane spaces that puts people and their needs at the center of organizations. The promotion of the well-being of employees is on the rise, with a special concern for their health, physical, social and emotional. Policies that must be accompanied by an aligned workspace. Plants, designer spaces, careful furniture ... elements that break the barriers between home and work and make us feel comfortable and relaxed, designing spaces with people in mind.
