Mount Kilimanjaro

The tallest free-standing mountain in the world is Mount Kilimanjaro. People travel from all over the world to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro in the hopes of reaching the 19,341-foot-high Uhuru Point. Mount Kilimanjaro is a breathtaking sight to see when it is covered with ice. But this view won't be around for long. Due to global warming, the glaciers are melting at an alarming rate and will be gone entirely in 50 years.

Around 50,000 visitors are thought to have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2013. Every year, the number has been progressively increasing. Because climbing Kilimanjaro doesn't require technical expertise or mountaineering gear like ice axes, crampons, harnesses, or ropes, it attracts a lot of daring people. The entire ascent of Kilimanjaro involves hiking. You can climb Mount Kilimanjaro if you can put one foot in front of the other and are in reasonable physical condition.

The Tanzania National Park Authority oversees Mount Kilimanjaro. In order to preserve flow, cleanliness, and safety, the authority maintains the main paths on Mount Kilimanjaro. Additionally, park authorities keep an eye on activity on the mountain to make sure that each climber is joined by a certified guide on a Kilimanjaro tour. Kilimanjaro solo climbing is not permitted.

Lemosho Route Description

A lengthy trip from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate is required to access the path. Three to four hours may be needed for this. The Londorossi Gate is situated near the mountain's western base.

In the beautiful, productive rainforest, Lemosho begins. On Kilimanjaro, it is the first ecological zone you will come to (we will trek through four). The Shira Plateau, which was once the third peak of Kilimanjaro before it collapsed, is where the path ascends and crosses. Then, we travel north to Moir Hut, where there are quick treks that can be done in the neighboring Lent Hills, making it a wonderful day for acclimatization.

Then, after ascending well above Lava Tower, we descend into Barranco Valley, one of the most picturesque spots on the entire trail. Following a circuitous route over the southern circuit to Karanga and high camp Barafu Hut, we ascend the daunting Barranco Wall.

Early in the morning, frequently with the full moon, the summit attempt is performed from Barafu. The adventure's coldest and windiest part is here. However, most of your excess clothing can be removed once the sun rises. The Mweka trail is used for the descent after the top.

Overview

Due to the presence of buffalo, elephants, and other animals in the forests surrounding the Lemosho Glades, the path is one of the few where groups may have an armed ranger accompany them on the first day.

One of the Lemosho 8-day cycles with the highest success rates. The extra days offer you more time to relax before trying the summit and give your body more time to acclimatize, decreasing the impacts of altitude sickness.

Best Time to Climb Kilimanjaro

Tanzania does not experience the four distinct seasons that other people do. Tanzania instead has dry and wet seasons. It may rain steadily every day during the rainy season, which will make climbing the peak challenging. As a result, the dry season is the ideal time to climb Kilimanjaro. January, February, July, August, September, and October are among them. March, April, May, June, November, and December are the wet months.
