There’s nothing like hanging out with your family during the holidays. That’s what part of the fun is, anyway. Waiting all year for the familiarity of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. The traditions, the food, the music… it’s all great. It’s just that winter doesn’t end with Christmas.

The good news is that there are still so many different ways to celebrate the winter season. From skiing to crafting creative casseroles in your warm kitchen, there’s something for everybody to enjoy. Even if you’re stuck inside somewhere cold for the foreseeable future.

These are some of the most fun ways you can hang out with friends and family now that the holidays are over and it’s back to the real world.

1. Cook up a (healthy) storm.

Just because we all just ate our weight in Christmas cookies doesn’t mean comfort food can’t be a great way to bond with friends and family. Let’s face it. Food is a great way to bond with anyone and since so many people are looking towards 2020 with their resolutions in mind, eating healthier could be easier than you think.

So many people are making an effort to be healthier this time of year that it’s a great opportunity to meal prep, swap recipes, and enjoy some time trying new foods with your loved ones.

2. Go tubing.

While not everyone in your life might be able to hit the slopes, tubing is extremely fun for all ages and a great way to get outside in the dead of winter and get active. Regardless of where you might be located or headed for the holidays, it’s a good idea to stock up on layers so you’ll be able to stay outside and play in the cold.

The kids will love it and it’ll definitely appeal to your inner child too.

3. Play in the snow.

Depending on where you live this could mean doing any number of activities, but according to this study, lots of people like to get outside in the winter to skate, ski, snowboard, or build a snowman. Playing in the snow is a dying art, and it’s a great way to do something fun and active and it gives you an excuse to drink some hot chocolate to warm up.

4. Play a game.

If the great outdoors isn’t your cup of tea, then you can always sit by the fire and do something more low key. Puzzles can be a fun option and board games are always a great way to get competitive with friends, family, or significant others.

Over the last few years, adult-themed party games have become pretty popular. It’s safe to assume most people have heard of Cards Against Humanity. What other games have your friends mentioned? Card games like What Do You Meme? are also fun to keep around for the crew to play.

5. Get baking.

Yeah, this might go against your New Year’s resolution, but baking is a great way to warm up and make the house smell like heaven. Try a new recipe or whip up an old favorite! No one can resist Toll House Cookies or cinnamon rolls. I’m pretty sure there’s scientific data to back that up.

Winter is the perfect season to spend time inside and resting, whether that’s literally or figuratively. Whatever your way of whiling away the winter hours might be, just remember that the holidays aren’t the only time you can take a pause and enjoy your friends and family. That’s the kind of thing that’s fun for the entire year. So bundle up, stock up on ingredients, and light a fire in the fireplace so you can settle in for the rest of the winter season.
