why does he watch my stories but not text me back
He Watches My Stories But Doesn’t Reply to My Messages Why This Happens

Start writing...He's online right now. I can see the green dot. He's typing in a group chat I share with him. He's commenting on some post about basketball. He's out there. He's present. He's choosing to be visible to everyone.
But my message sits there. Delivered. Two hours ago. Three now.
I saw him post a story from the coffee shop we used to go to. The one where he knows the barista by name. He's holding the cup I bought him last winter. The caption's some joke about Mondays. He's got time for that. He's got time for strangers in the comments. He's got time to like his coworker's photo from the beach.
He's just not got time for this thread between us.
I watched a woman do this once. Not my partner, just someone I knew from the gym. She'd be on the stairmaster, phone balanced on the console, thumb scrolling through his activity while she climbed nowhere. She'd check his last seen, close the app, open it again thirty seconds later like the timestamp might've changed.
She started knowing his patterns better than her own workout schedule. Online at 9:15. Posts at lunch. Active again at 11 PM but never answers her until morning, and then it's some dry three-word thing that arrives like an afterthought.
She wasn't crazy. She was just paying attention to someone who stopped wanting to be caught.
That's the part that gets twisted. You start feeling insane for noticing. You tell yourself you're overthinking. You delete the app, reinstall it by dinner. You send something normal, something breezy, something that doesn't sound desperate. You wait. He posts a meme. You stare at the screen like it personally insulted you.
You start doing the math on other people. Who's he replying to? What's so interesting in that group chat? You scroll back through old conversations looking for where the warmth dropped off. Was it Tuesday? Was it after you said that thing about his brother? You screenshot your own message and stare at it. Looks fine. Looks like anyone's message. But it's not fine because it's invisible, and you can't figure out if you said something wrong or if you just became background noise.
This is where most people misread what's happening... I broke this down properly here...
The checking becomes its own habit. Not even about him anymore. It's about the information. The timestamp. The little clues. You start noticing he views your stories but doesn't reply to the actual message. You notice he goes offline the second you type. You notice he comes back online when you stop. You tell yourself that's paranoid. But you've got the screenshots. You've got the timestamps. You've got the pattern.

You start comparing yourself to whoever's getting his attention. You look at her posts. She's not even that interesting. You look at his replies to other people. He's engaged. He's making jokes. He's using exclamation points like a normal human. You remember when he used to text you like that. You scroll up six months and it's a different person. Or maybe you're the different person. You can't tell anymore.
You ask a friend. She says leave him. You don't want to leave him. You want to understand why you're the only one who gets the dead-end treatment while he runs full conversations with people he doesn't even see on weekends. You want to know what switch flipped that made you the homework he ignores while he's out playing.
The worst part isn't the not-replying. It's the pretending. You see him in person and he's normal. He's present. He asks about your day like he didn't just ghost you for two days straight. You want to bring it up but you sound needy if you do. You sound like you're keeping score. So you sit there with your coffee and your question and your growing certainty that something is wrong but you can't name it without sounding crazy.
You start testing it. Sending messages at different times. Sending less. Sending more. Sending something funny. Something serious. Something that doesn't need a reply so he has no excuse. He finds new excuses. Or no excuse at all. Just silence that sits there and makes you feel like you're shouting into a room he's standing in, wearing headphones he chose to put on.
You check when he was last active so often your thumb knows the path by muscle memory. App, profile, activity status, close. App, profile, activity status, close. You see he was on twenty minutes ago. You sent something an hour ago. The math isn't complicated. You just don't like the answer.
This is where most people misread what's happening... I broke this down properly here...
You start remembering the early days when he'd reply before you finished typing. When your phone buzzed and you smiled before you looked. You wonder if you did something to deserve this shift. If you got too available. If you should've played harder to get. If you should've been someone else. The self-improvement voice in your head starts pitching solutions. Be busier. Be cooler. Be less invested. Like this is a strategy problem and not a respect problem.
But you don't know it's a respect problem because he hasn't said that. He's just not saying anything. And silence is technically not a lie. It's just a space where truth lives without being named.
You keep watching. Not because you're obsessed. Because you're trying to solve a puzzle that's missing pieces on purpose. You notice he replies to group threads you're in but skips your direct message in the same app. You notice he answers your question in the group but not privately. You start feeling like you're being managed. Like your access to him got rerouted through public channels where he can perform normal while the private line rusts.
You don't say "he's not interested" because he hasn't said that. He's just shown it, over and over, in the language of availability that everyone understands but nobody wants to translate. You keep hoping there's a reason. He's busy. He's going through something. He's bad at texting. You collect these excuses like they're evidence of care instead of what they are: the last remains of your willingness to explain away being put last.
I've shown exactly what this pattern actually means... and what changes it... because what's happening right now doesn't fix itself
