After being established in 1974, this certification has been continuously refreshed to ensure updated practices based on American Heart Association standards. 

ACLS addresses a number of conditions such as stroke recognition, sudden cardiac arrest, and acute coronary syndromes. It also focuses on treatments such as minimal interruption of CPR and the use of AEDs.
