Educational games (learning games) have existed since the 1990s. Through the years, learning games have been studied extensively by researchers and educators. Researchers, parents, and educators have found out that learning games hold a lot of potential and offer several cognitive and social benefits. Learning games are helpful for children of all ages, especially preschoolers. kindergarten learning games can benefit preschoolers in several ways. Let's see the top 3 ways in which learning games help preschoolers and children of all ages.

1. Games enhance cognitive skills.

i.Cognitive abilities

Learning games enhance problem-solving, analytical thinking, critical thinking, and logical thinking abilities. A study featured in the Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology journal found that children who play video games frequently had '1.75 times the odds of high intellectual functioning and 1.88 times the odds of high overall school competence' than those who did not play video games. This means that children who played learning games developed higher IQs and were better at academics. Learning games for 2 year olds, like Brain City and Mountain Climber, keep children entertained, while the in-game math puzzles help children enhance their cognitive abilities.

ii. Problem-solving ability and memory

Puzzle games like Go-Ball are great learning games for 6 year olds and preschoolers. Puzzle games help children of all ages, preschoolers and graders alike. Puzzle games develop children's problem-solving abilities. Puzzle games for preschoolers and graders better their short-term memory, which helps kids plan, initiate, organize, and execute tasks.

2. Learning games boost imagination, creativity, and motor skills.

i. Imagination and creativity

Playing make-believe games and role-playing games is a healthy behavior for all children. Learning games for 5 year olds and preschoolers like Fantasy World, introduce kids to creatures from fairy tales like trolls, gnomes, witches, dragons, and a lot more! These games help strengthen kids' imagination abilities and creativity. Children who play role-play games have better imagination and a better understanding of social situations.

ii. Skill development

With games, children can develop excellent hand-eye coordination skills. Preschooler learning games like Runners include fast-paced action and quick thinking. Children have to smash through unhealthy foods while running as far as they can. While doing so, they also learn to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy foods. Games that involve executing tricks or fast-paced actions help children develop better reflexes. The skills children learn while playing games are transferrable, which means the skills they develop while playing learning games are valuable in the real world. For example, the hand-eye coordination and reflexes children develop from playing games are important in physical activities and sports.

3. Games encourage the development of physical skills.

i. Children develop positive habits

Children can develop positive long-lasting habits between the ages of 2-11 and as such, should be introduced to discipline and self-control. One study showed that children who played games were 24% less likely to snack, and thus kept their cravings in check. Learning games for 6 year olds that teach them to build positive habits are very useful. Runners is a game developed by SKIDOS that teaches kids about positive eating habits and self-control. The game revolves around distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy food, and running long distances to lose weight and get healthy.

ii. Video games encourage exercise

Neuroscientists and child care specialists observe that video game players (especially boys) look forward to learning new moves from sports video games and practicing them in real life. Children are more likely to take up new sports in real-life after being introduced to them in video games. Learning games for 4th graders that showcase sports and exercise inspire children to be active. Street Soccer is one of the best learning games for 4th graders as it teaches math and allows children to play soccer simultaneously!
