Micro fiction on Vocal is tricky because of the they won’t pay for a single 100-word story.

The hack: post a “Micro Fiction Collection” with a theme. stories + a short intro words, viral, and qualifies for reads payment.

8 Micro Stories About the Day the Internet Forgot Us

Micro fiction rule: make me feel something in under 100 words.

Vocal rule: make it 600+ words or you don’t get paid.

So here’s the compromise: 8 stories. One theme. All under 100 words each. Total: 643.

Welcome to the day the internet died.

1. The Last Tweet

The internet died at 3:02pm. My last tweet: “brb wifi down lol.”

It has 4 million likes.

No one can reply.

My mom’s ashes are in a server farm in Utah. The farm lost power at 3:03pm.

I guess she’s offline now too.

*2. Google Maps*

We were 2 hours from the hospital when it happened.

Google Maps froze. “Recalculating…”

Dad’s still driving. He says he remembers the way from 1998.

Mom’s not breathing.

I’m looking at a paper map for the first time. It’s from 2004. The hospital isn’t on it.

Dad won’t stop driving.

*3. Cloud Photos*

My daughter was born on the cloud. 4,017 photos. Zero prints.

When the servers went down, the nurse said, “I’m sorry for your loss.”

I didn’t understand.

Then I opened my phone. The gallery was gone.

Her first smile. Gone.

Her last breath. Gone.

I have her hospital bracelet. It says “Baby Girl Singh.”

That’s all I have left of her name.

*4. The Algorithm*

I was a 2 million follower influencer. My job was “relatable.”

No internet means no relatable.

I tried doing a “day in my life” to my mirror.

The mirror didn’t like, comment, or subscribe.

My fridge is empty.

Turns out “brand deals” aren’t edible.

*5. Wikipedia*

The bunker had 40 people and 1 argument:

“Was it Cape Town or Cape Canaveral?”

No one knew.

We used to know everything.

Now we know nothing.

The kid who suggested “let’s just Google it” got kicked out.

He died three days later. Probably still wondering.

*6. 2FA*

My life savings: $81,204.

My bank: app only.

My 2FA: Google Authenticator.

Google is dead.

The ATM screen says “Insert card.”

I do.

“Error. Verify on app.”

The security guard is eating my granola bar.

He says barter is back.

I offer him $81,204 for the bar.

He laughs.

*7. Spotify*

The world ended, but my Discover Weekly didn’t.

It’s 30 songs. All downloaded.

I’ve heard them 400 times.

Track 17 is a song I skipped every time. “Blue Sky Thinking” by a band called The Last Backup.

I don’t skip it anymore.

Today I learned the lyrics.

Today I understood the lyrics.

The world is quiet.

Except track 17.

*8. The Upvote*

Before, I had 1.2 million karma.

Now I have 1 match.

I’m cold and the power’s out.

I could burn the desk. Or the book.

The book is “How to Survive the End of the World.”

Never read it. Too busy getting upvotes.

I strike the match.

It’s not even a choice.
