It is believed that a visit to the temple and a dip in the holy Ganges river can wash away sins and grant salvation to the devotees. The temple is also a major pilgrimage site for Hindus, and many people come to Varanasi specifically to visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Golden temple The temple is open to all visitors, regardless of their religion or nationality. However, visitors are required to follow certain rules and regulations, such as removing shoes before entering the temple premises and dressing modestly. The temple is also under tight security to prevent any untoward incidents or terrorist attacks. The Golden Temple, also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is a Sikh gurdwara located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is considered to be the most important and sacred pilgrimage site for Sikhs. The history of the Golden Temple dates back to the 16th century when the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das, began the construction of a pool of water which would later become the temple's holy tank or sarovar. The construction of the temple itself began under the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan, in the late 16th century. The temple was designed to symbolize the unity of all people and religions, with its four entrances welcoming visitors from all directions. The temple was attacked and destroyed several times by various invaders and rulers, including the Mughal Empire. In the 18th century, the temple was rebuilt by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who covered the upper floors of the temple with gold, giving it its distinctive appearance. The Golden Temple continues to be an important center of Sikhism and a symbol of the Sikh community's resilience and devotion. It is open to visitors of all religions and nationalities, and free food (langar) is served to all visitors in the temple's community kitchen as a sign of Sikh hospitality and equality. The temple complex also houses a museum that showcases the history and culture of Sikhism. The Golden Temple Amritsar or Harmandir Sahib is a gurudwara located in Amritsar, Punjab. Among the most prominent spiritual sites of Sikhism, the gurudwara is built around a man-made pool adding to its splendor and atmospherics. The structure was completed by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh guru in 1577. In 1830, Maharaja Ranjit Singh overlaid the sanctum with gold foil, leading to its name. A significant shrine in Sikhism, the Golden Temple became the center of the Singh Sabha Movement between 1883 and 1920s. After the conflict of 1984 between the Indian government led by Indira Gandhi and Sikh groups led by Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale which left several Sikhs dead and the Akal Takht destroyed, the gurudwara complex was reconstructed again. The entry is free to Golden Temple and free darshan is available to all devotees. The Golden Temple Timings on all days of the week is between 05:00 am and 10:00 pm. The Amritsar Airport is about 13 kilometre from the Golden Temple, while the Amritsar Junction Railway Station is less than 2 kilometre from the shrine.
