Smart classrooms: the answer to modern-day challenges

By Sidd PandeyPublished 5 years ago • 3 min read

The education sector might never go back to normal. The brick and mortar model crumbled with the pandemic, and stakeholders couldn’t help but notice the loopholes in the sector. Though online learning saved the sector from plummeting, it couldn’t be relied upon owing to its haphazard structure. Online classes initially were thought to be a holy grail, but schools in large numbers started witnessing dropouts, declining enrollment and poor performance by children. This made the authorities wonder if there’s something that they were doing wrong. While technology has been the saviour, mere usage won't suffice in the long term. Schools across the country need a system that can combat the problems with the online learning module.

The way out!

Smart classrooms are a long-term solution for the problems that exist in the industry for decades. These classrooms make the teaching quality exceptional and give teachers enough resources to teach from and make the curriculum enjoyable. Smart classroom with its enhanced version of learning and teaching also guarantees brilliant results for children. The engagement factor of every child increases with smart learning, which seems to be missing during online learning. One of the significant worries of school stakeholders is conducting admission when the school doors are shut. With smart schools, owners can conduct admission with the help of school admission management systems that allows the school to capture student inquiries, check their eligibility, follow-up, collect documents, and complete the application process digitally. The school’s enrolment can stay unaffected.

Let’s head in the right direction

Schools have suffered a great deal because of their redundant practices for decades. However, this can change with smart schooling. The education sector needs a model that can stand the test of time, take classes remotely efficiently, guarantee brilliant results, offer significant resources to teachers to teach from, conduct admissions without waiting for the school gates to open, etc. So let’s look at how smart schools are changing how education is being delivered to students:

  • Smart learning provides flexible learning to students. They can learn whenever they want wherever they want and do not have to dread missed lectures. They can always go back to the recorded classes.
  • Smart classes allow schools to conduct multiple functions such as conducting assessments, exams, admissions, fee collection with just a click.
  • Smart learning enhances the engagement factor among students that lead to better results
  • Smart classes help students to learn collaboratively that enhances their emotional and social quotient
  • Since students get proficient at handling technology well at a nascent age, they become ready for the highly competitive future.
  • In-time monitoring of students has become a task during online learning. Smart classes help parents and teachers alike to keep track of students’ performance and fix any learning gaps, if there are any.

The learning loss that the pandemic has caused is irreversible. Schools do not have enough time to mull over the decision to deploy technology inside their premises. This must be done as soon as possible to avoid learning loss from getting aggravated.

UNICEF says that technology is not enough in schools to get desired results. It explains that technology is only a small part of a successful education transformation. Successful
e-learning projects require policy changes, new teaching practices, new education resources and additional training and ongoing support for educators – all of which are where the real educational benefit lies. However, it is fundamental to get the technology part right to enable the desired transformations in teaching and learning.”

Schools must revisit their conventional framework to enhance quality learning and improve efficiency across their departments. Relying on the existing framework of education will not reap benefits. It is essential to evolve with time to thrive.
