For my understanding of screening and sorting theory, I had to figure out what that is referring to. I couldn't make the connection. Suffering the internet, I came across that it means the Theory of Screening, Education, and Distribution of Income. "If education provides information with skills, then it is providing a "commodity." If the market "fails,"; and the social returns differ from private performances, they have examined the market allocation of resources to education and the structure of the educational system, which would emerge from a simplified political process in a highly idealized setting." (Stiglitz, 1975).

Reading the above quote, I understood that the question is referring to Durkheim's Socialisation theory. Socialization, as it relates to Durkheim, can relative to the following. "Durkheim argued that, in the complex division of labour that characterizes modern society, education should be aligned with one's future occupational aspiration; that is, teachers should learn how to teach, and lawyers should learn how to practice it" (Corrigall-Brown, 2016). I believe that Durkheim, even in the early years of education, was on to something. As it is essential to a certain point of educational levels to divide the learning section so that individuals learn more base on the role of the society they will be filling. In doing so, they will fill they possible in the community and becoming defined for the purpose they decide upon taking. Like for example, society can be determined by a section of different roles they fill and the further by the amount of study they take in that role.

I used to play an online game, where we role-played different caste systems. We had religious leaders, scribes, builders, physicians and the warriors. Each had a different role in the casting system, and each was very important, they relied on each other. In the castes, a mentor must be taught and pass a variety of tests. Schooling in the caste systems can easily take a real-life full year to obtain. After a year, you can further divide into subsections in the caste system base on what you desired. I got very far, where I became the leader of a hospital as a physician and teaching other students. I believe this caste system, even in role-playing, relates much to Durkheim's understanding of how society can be affected by one's education in their career.

"However, if the human capital model is correct, it must be assumed students acquire skills in the classroom that are directly transferable to the job" (Corrigall-Brown, 2016). sociologist mentions this statement, and I believe it has directly transferred to Durkheim's theory of Socialisation. As it applies that post-secondary education should relate to the career the person desires to obtain. "In the early 1970s, 58 percent of majors were considered occupational. In the late 1980s, that figure had climbed to 65 "percent (Corrigall-Brown, 2016). In sociologist's statement, I believe this can be made note that it can be defined reflecting the online definition of the Theory of Screening, Education, and Distribution of Income. It relates to the possibly crashing of the job market by too many individuals obtaining post-secondary education. Which this then sparked the "defensive credentialing" that sociologist leads into.

The sociologist refers to defensive credentialing in the following quote. "This phenomenon has been termed "defensive credentialing," where students attend college to keep from losing ground to degree holders" (Corrigall-Brown, 2016). The reason mentioned before, the post-secondary level is becoming easier to obtain for many individuals. Thus, it makes for the job market even more completion. Not only do you require post-secondary education, but you can also become overqualified for the position. This situation is happening because jobs, even though so many Baby Boomers are leaving them, now you require more education of years of study to obtain also to obtain the most straightforward jobs. The workforce has updated its qualifications to match the massive amount of college graduates. When you think about how the game is being played, it is unfortunate. The student will become deep in debt by trying to get enough education to outsmart the system. Once they walk out in the workforce, they find out their knowledge is not enough. Now they must return for more training and deeper debt. This participant is what happened in my career. After eleven years in the kitchen with certificates, I obtained a two-year Baking Management diploma, returned to applying only to find out now I required another two-year Hotel Management or Chef Management courses to qualify for the position I wanted.
