Australia is one of the favorite destinations for those who want to leave to study abroad or have a work experience outside India. Many young people see the Australian territory as the destination in which to make their dreams come true… And many succeed! Living, working and studying in Australia is truly a life-changing experience, so much so that few people want to leave the land of kangaroos after staying there.

You must know, however, that to live in Australian territory you must have a residence permit that justifies your stay; this permit is called Australian Visa and is divided into different types based on the objectives for which you enter the country. The main visas are as follows:

• tourist,

• for students,

• for workers,

But how to get a visa for Australia?

We explain it to you in the course of this article, where you will find the general requirements and the steps to follow to apply for this permission.

How to get an Australia Visa? Choose the right one for your needs!

Before applying for a residence permit in Australia you need to understand what your goals are.

• Do you want to study in Australia at a university or professional level or study English?

• Would you like to work in Australia with or without a matched study path?

• Do you want to visit relatives or friends or just take a vacation? Or maybe you have an ongoing business negotiation?

In addition, you must know exactly how long you wish to stay in Australia, a fundamental information for choosing and obtaining a visa.

Having said that, you should know that if you have study goals (for example you want to enroll at a university in Australia, an English school or a professional school) we can help you for free to choose the right Australian visa for you. We will help you navigate the different study visas available and provide you with important advice in this regard, so that your chances of obtaining the permit increase.

We are talking about probabilities because not everyone who applies for it is able to obtain an Australia Visa: the officials of the Immigration Offices are, rightly, very taxing. For this reason, you must check that you meet all the necessary requirements to obtain your permit.

General requirements for obtaining the Australia Visa:

The road types of visas to leave for Australia have specific requirements for each of them, which impose limits regarding age, any course of study, the number of weeks of work, if any, and much more.

For example, you can get the Australia Working Holiday visa only if you are between the ages of 18 and 30, while the Student Visa allows you to study in Australia if you are at least 16 years old and enrolled in a course of study certificate. Still others, such as business visas and permanent residence visas, require you to have extensive work experience and a potential Australian employment contract.

All (or almost all) require that you do not already have certain Australian visas, different for each type of permit you need to apply for.

The differences between the various permits are many, but there are also general requirements that they all have in common.

Here are which ones:

Have a valid passport for the entire period of stay in Australia. If your passport is about to expire you must prove that you have applied for renewal.

Not having suffered a refusal on a previous visa application for Australian territory or the cancellation of a previously obtained visa.

Have the intention to return to your country of origin and be able to prove it, for example by showing that you have a family in India, a house (even if your parents' or rented) and a residence in an Indian municipality.

Meeting the Character Requirements These requirements also include your criminal record status.

Be healthy. Immigration is particularly concerned with respect to cases of tuberculosis (and probably from now on also to cases of Covid-19) and to people who require special and fixed care. Accepting only healthy people guarantees the maintenance of a good level of public health and safety and guarantees Australian citizens and permanent residence holders access without slowing down to health services.

If you are 18 or older, you must sign the Australian Declaration of Values confirming respect for the Australian lifestyle and compliance with local laws.

If you or any member of your family (including those who do not apply for a visa with you) has incurred a debt with the Australian Government, such as a loan, you must have repaid it or have agreed to repay it before applying for the Visa.

Furthermore, many visas require the stipulation of health insurance. They also require verification of your income and those of your family so that the Australian Government is sure that you have enough money to cover your entire stay in Australia.

How (and where) to apply for a visa for Australia

You can apply for the Australian Visa only online (it is an obligation in force since 1 July 2016), specifically on the official Australian Immigration website using a procedure called eVisa.

Here is how to proceed for the application of your temporary residence permit:

• Enter the required information (personal data, email address, number and expiry date of your documents and more)

• Use the Visa Finder tool to choose the right Visa for your needs.

• Follow step by step to fill in the residence permit application (if it is an Australia Student Visa, first read the article "How to reduce the chances of being denied a student visa in Australia").

• Once the data has been filled in, it is time to pay the visa - unless it is a Tourist Visa, the free tourist visa -.

• Each visa has different costs, which may vary periodically according to the decisions of the Australian Government: for example, the Student Visa Australia in 2020 costs 620 Australian dollars, while the Working Holiday Visa Australia costs, in 2020, 485 Australian dollars.

• You can pay for your visa online, in the Immigration portal, by credit card, PayPal, UnionPay or BPAY. Once the payment has been made, you just have to wait for the acceptance or denial of your application, which will be sent to you via email. To be on the safe side, we recommend that you print it (along with the payment receipt) and keep it carefully: your visa number may be useful at any moment, so you should definitely not lose it.

• While waiting for the answer, which may even arrive after several weeks, you can check the progress of your application by logging into your ImmiAccount.

• You are now ready to apply for your visa to travel to Australia.
