Have you ever wondered why many students drop out of college? Or why some choose to not go to college right out of high school? Well hopefully after reading this, you'll be able to understand another point of view of how others may view the education system.

Now I can't speak for everyone, I can only speak from my own experience. I was once a former college student who chose to attend college right out of high school. However, I lost motivation after just my first two years. The reason for that? I was exhausted, and my brain felt fried. Especially being a working college student. I never understood why they had us taking basic prerequisite classes the first two years of college that we have already graduated from back in high school. The education system has students wasting two years on basic classes when we could and should be focusing on classes related to majors chosen.

Students are more likely to be successful in their chosen majors if they just focused on classes specifically for those majors. The education system dictates whether an individual is capable of being successful in a field of choice by a test and exam score, and that's unfair! Every individual learns differently. The different types of learning styles are, visual, auditory, read/write and kinesthetic. So, with that many learning styles, there should also be just as many ways to prove that an individual is capable of getting what needs to be done. With that being said, test and quiz scores shouldn't dictate whether a student can get the job done.

Teachers, and professors play a big role in students’ success. Schools emphasize on test taking, and that prevents many teachers/ professors from being creative and choosing what would work best for their students’. It prevents them from really being able to engage with their students’. Without even realizing it, focusing so much on test taking discourages teachers/ professors from teaching valuable things that are not on exams and tests that could be very useful once they’ve graduated.

What adults don’t realize, is that students’ go through more stress than any other age group does. The reason behind that is because students must figure out what they must do to be successful. Majority of the time they’re stuck between what they really want and what they’re told is best for them, and I’ve experienced that myself. I have come from a family that has mostly been in the medical field. I was always told it was what was best and what would form stability for me. Although they were right, I knew I wanted to pursue other things. However, with the fear of disappointing them I chose the route they felt was right. What was the turnout? Well, after 3 years of being in the same major, although I was efficient when it came to clinicals and working with patients, my test and exam scores didn’t say so. So, I finally decided to go another route, and I couldn’t have been happier with my decision.

In conclusion, it is very important for an individual to pursue what they feel is best for them career wise because they’re more likely to be successful in that chosen area. The education system needs to truly see underlying issues, and figure out new ways to prove that any student is capable of getting any job done that they’re committed to, as well as ways to keep students engaged, and be more involved to get them on the road of success. Support from all angles is very important in anyone’s success.
