With concrete examples

We live in a world where rapid transition, readiness and flexibility are key words in almost all industries. These are also buzz words that are very normal to find in a job ad. However, it can seem very diffuse for the individual employee. First of all, it can be difficult to demonstrate that you actually possess these competencies, due to the fact that is can become intangible. So instead of asking how an employee can adapt and meet new requirements, one can accommodate this as a company. One of the ways to do this is by investing in upskilling and empowerment. And here, courses are a really good and effective method. The employees can acquire concrete tools which they can use in work assessments. This is an advantage for the company since they can delegate more advanced and broad assessment for the employee. In the following we will review some of the courses that may prove relevant in several industries.

Accounting course: If your job position involves finance

Finance is integrated in a lot of positions, but the extend of it vary. Of course, if your primary job is accountaing, you do not need to participate in a beginner course - you got that covered. However, there may be other cases where accountaing and numbers only makes up a small part of the job. In this case you may need a course where you can both refresh forgotten terms and learn new. In an accounting course for beginners you will learn the basic - but absolutely essential - concepts in accounting; for example debit, credit, balance sheet, financial statement etc.

You learn the structure of an account so that you will be able to make one yourself - from start to finish.

Peer-to-peer training: Effective knowledge sharing

Peer-to-peer training is one of the courses that is useful in just about all kind of business. It supports the process where one employee has to learn something from another. A process that can be very time consuming, but which is rarely effective. Knowledge can be lost quickly, and there may arise unspoken cues between the parties. This can have a great impact on the learning process. If you talk past each other from the beginning and it is not made explicit, it can lead to further misunderstandings. Hence, essential part of the learning may have been lost.

Peer-to-peer training is relevant for anyone who is in a role where they have to pass on information. It can be managers, leaders, but it can also be the employees who are simply responsible for education and training. It is not neccesarely the same person in all cases; it can vary from time to time. Thus, a course in peer-to-peer training can be relevant for many different job types.

Course in presentation technique: Get a message across

You may think of a presentation course as something that is only relevant for lecturers. One can easily come to believe that the target audience is predominantly employees who speak in front of many people. However, there can be countless situations within a workplace where, for one reason or another, you have to get a message across. Internal meetings, customer meetings, where you try to sell them a solution, training and education etc. There are many examples of situations where you need to deliver a message in a convincing way. If an employee can speak his case and get a message across, a lot of opportunities open up, which is a clear advantage. The impact becomes greater, and as you can probably imagine, it can be transferred to many situations and contexts. Read more about the presentation course here.

To summarize, it can be said that there are many reasons why a company should invest in upskilling. When decision-makers choose to neglect upskilling, the cause may be that the investment amount seems to high compared to the outcome. It can also be difficult to analyze the direct effect, but this is not the same as saying that it does not have an effect. In the long run, it may be a small sacrifice for the value you gain.
