Hilson, Indiana is where ANYTHING can happen; especially in Hilson High. This storyboard only begins to COVER a few ideas…

Late August

We’re at the teen music club, “The Rock House” for Joel Bido’s final performance of the Summer before the start of the school year (he’s attempting to play “The Rock Show” and Rock & Roll High School”). Honorable mentions in the audience include Cassie, Dana, Josh, and Rachel. Josh and Rachel’s presence at the same concert leads to something deeper than a shared appreciation for the same music by the same artist; it may even lead to something deeper than a lifetime of shared friendship (We hear “Can’t Feel My Face” or “Two Hearts…”).

September.

Welcome back to Hilson High, the most natural habitat for the class of 2023 and their friends and foes (“Back to School” or “School Days” plays). Here, we see Josh and Rachel one more time after the events of the concert. Rachel is ready to tell all of her friends about where she and Josh stand right now; meanwhile, Josh isn’t even ready to come right out with the conversation defining their relationship. We also see Josh beginning to relate to the other members of “The Hilson 5.” Simultaneously, Cassie, Cara, and Catie are beginning to relate with THEIR other classmates in the only way that “The Clique” knows how (“Pretty Girls” begins to play over their entrance, transitioning into “Stupid Girls” or “Mean,” depending on who they’re relating to). Meanwhile, Adam and Amanda are relating to one another not just as a couple but as campaign OPPONENTS for Class President. We see Daniel Priest enter the building and how THAT affects his relationship with his classmates; along with the paradigm that it presents for some of the popular jocks. We overhear Joel’s defining relationship with his “Homework Buddy,” Evan; we WITNESS Evan fawning over Beth… (the classroom scene cuts to Evan as we hear the first verse of “U+Me=Us;” transitioning into the instrumental form of “Beth” as the object of his attention settles and focuses on her).

Lunch time only advances on the classmates’ friendly or foe-like relations and reinforces the cliquishness (“Eat It.”)

October

More students interacting with peers and FAMILY dynamics are added into the fray. (Susan Lynch interacting with her son, Brendan, as well as with her coffee group of grown women; Linda Cline watching over and relating to both of her daughters in the only way she knows how; Adam and Rex Lunbarg butting heads over politics; the Priest family at home, etc.). Meanwhile, Daniel and Katie are allowed to throw a Halloween party; providing that it gets supervised by the honorable Reverend and his wife. Nevertheless, this is Halloween and a weekend; even THEIR party ends up accidentally competing with ANOTHER party and awakening THAT sense of rivalry with the school’s social hierarchy…

November

School elections are officially on the horizon, thereby installing a Class President and ending, at the very least, campaign season, if not more. Additionally, a homecoming reunion that one family must prepare for around the Thanksgiving table looms on the horizon. Finally, a much BIGGER party, with worse consequences for the class of 2023, is on the horizon…

December

There is further blowback from the events of the party, be that between families, friends, or relationships. Meanwhile, the class’s “Secret Santa” experiment opens up brand new opportunities; or complications…

January

A change in the new year could bring fresh new changes for the class of 2023; and the rest of Hilson, Indiana.

February

Further changing friendships and relationships are on the rise and students are beginning to anticipate the Spring Talent Show…

March

A campus walk-out could directly impact the Class of 2023’s students.

April

Spring Talent Show pits old rivals against one another; and opens the door for a new partnership…

May

Preparations are made to say goodbye; not only to this year’s seniors (2022) but, in some cases, to friendships and partnerships formed in the Class of 2023.

June

Graduation; and preparations for Summer.

The Class of 2023, for the most part, will be back NEXT year; but with what changes in store for them…?
