“From learning to leadership, Ruqia turns knowledge into impact, bridging China and Pakistan through education and research.”

From Pakistan to China, from learning to leadership—an inspiring journey of knowledge, achievement, and cooperation.

From Master’s to PhD: a journey of dedication

Ruqia, from Pakistan, began her academic journey at Jilin University in 2019 after being awarded the prestigious Chinese Government Scholarship to pursue a master’s degree. Excelling in her studies and embracing opportunities for growth, she continued her education and is now pursuing a PhD in Regional Economics at the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University.

Her doctoral research focuses on the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its impact on Pakistan’s inclusive growth. Using advanced methods such as CGE modeling and gravity model analysis, she examines how trade, infrastructure, and connectivity can drive inclusive economic development, create opportunities for youth and women, and strengthen China–Pakistan cooperation.

“Studying at Jilin University has strengthened my belief that knowledge must go beyond classrooms—it must solve real problems and create pathways for inclusive growth,” she says.

Over the years, Ruqia has built a record of both academic excellence and active participation in cultural and social life at Jilin University. Her achievements include:

Her leadership was recognized during the pandemic, when she was appointed as a member of Jilin University’s International Students’ Union (2019–2022), and later as Head of the Life Department of the Union.

A bridge of friendship: promoting China–Pakistan understanding

Ruqia believes that international students serve as natural bridges of friendship. Through her studies, leadership roles, and media participation, she has promoted cultural exchange and mutual understanding between China and Pakistan.

“Jilin University has given me not just education, but also opportunities to grow, to lead, and to represent my country. I want to use this experience to deepen China–Pakistan cooperation in education, research, and development,” she explains.

Looking ahead: research for inclusive growth

Ruqia’s long-term vision is to transform her academic research into a practical force for development in Pakistan. By analyzing CPEC’s impact, she aims to support policies that ensure economic growth is inclusive and sustainable, benefiting not only large industries but also youth, women, and small businesses.

She also hopes to strengthen academic and cultural ties between Chinese and Pakistani universities, ensuring that future generations of students can continue to learn, share, and contribute to global development.

“As international students, we carry the seeds of knowledge from China back to our countries. My dream is to make those seeds blossom into opportunities for inclusive growth in Pakistan,” she says with pride.

Ruqia’s journey is a vivid reflection of Jilin University’s spirit—advancing knowledge, promoting cooperation, and nurturing world-class talents who transform societies. Her story embodies the essence of international education: learning, sharing, and building bridges across nations.
