The Ministry of Education in Ghana changed the curriculum, this change required the printing of new textbooks. Unlike many western countries where religion isn't taught or often mentioned in schools, African countries pride themselves on teaching only Islam & Christianity to public school students.

The education excludes teaching that Jesus was Jewish, along with the other major religions practiced around the world. Leaving out the traditional religion that a small percentage of Ghanians continue to practice.

Students in the country had been without texts books for long periods of time. Several schools in Ghana don't have proper physical buildings. Pupils have been using trees, sheds, church garages as make-shift classrooms.

There are hundreds of videos, photos and social media posts about the poor conditions or lack of schools in Ghana. One scan of social media you can see plenty of organizations scrambling to build schools.

Other children have to go through dangerous means in order to reach their school buildings. A boat used to ferry children to school, capsized in Ghana recently killing 9 children. The government has long ignored these issues.

Meanwhile under Akufo-Addo they've been spending millions on a cathedral in which costs continue to rise.

The cost of the cathedral was first $95 million USD, why was this approved in a country lacking proper school facilities in the first place? This is purely ignorance but also scamming of funds to cause Ghanians to remain poorly educated and impoverished.

Simply put Ghanians can't even comprehend this waste of money when less than 30% of the roads in Ghana are paved. When the parts of the country flood during rain season. This textbook was more than accurate I only wish they would have provided just a few these examples.

The page from the textbook was widely shared on social media, some Ghanians claiming this was an attack on Christianity. Despite the words all religion in Ghana has caused several ills. Below are the words from the text.

1. Religion is a major cause of physical conflicts, and doctrinal disputes in Ghana and the world as a whole.

2. Christianity has led to an increase poverty; There is a direct link between religion and laziness which contributes to poverty in Ghana and Africa as a whole. Religion makes people lackadaisical in their attitude towards finding practical ways to improve their undesirable living conditions.

3. Some religious doctrines brought by missionaries create a sense of fear: or timidity in their adherents.

4. Religion creates an avenue for many tricksters, or charlatans to parade as men of God to fleece the poor of their meagre resources.

5. Most religious groups discriminate against women.in so many ways.

6. Many politicians in Ghana use religion as a vehicle to cause disaffection among people in a bid to advance their political interests.

7. Religion in Ghana does not encourage creativity, invention or critical thinking, because of its conservative or static nature.

Here is one point that has been widely studied and written about in prior years.

2. Christianity has led to an increase poverty

Religion can influence the response to poverty by having an ethical impact when principles benefiting all in society are applied within economic systems. Religion can also influence the response to poverty by fostering an attitude of willingness to practice generosity.

According to a Gallop poll from 2010 which lists poverty is highest in some of the words most religious countries.

Religiosity Highest in World's Poorest Nations

United States is among the rich countries that buck the trend

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Gallup surveys in 114 countries in 2009 show that religion continues to play an important role in many people's lives worldwide. The global median proportion of adults who say religion is an important part of their daily lives is 84%, unchanged from what Gallup has found in other years. In 10 countries and areas, at least 98% say religion is important in their daily lives.

I have been reading, writing and researching the connection between the most religious countries, in Africa with the higher rates of suicides as well.

One of the major issues in the countries with higher rigiousity (Christianity) there is also noise pollution. The noise mainly from churches, which hold services early in the morning to late into the night. The noise going into house with Africans who work long, hard hours with little sleep due to the noise.

Accra Ghana was the location for noise monitoring, devices were setup to monitor the noise. Also when residents spoke to people in charge of the noise project they reported inability to sleep because of noise.

Uganda created a bill to curb noise pollution, they even have a number to report offenders. Widely shared in a Uganda expat group, the information is posted because new migrants to Uganda often complain about the noise. This is the same as in a recent post in the Ghana expat group.

A Tanzania news outlet also wrote about the noise pollution. Here you can read about that as well.

Malawi was once names one of the most religious countries in the world. With extreme poverty much like Burundi, which was named the poorest countries in the world. Here you can watch a video from Malawi where a woman enters a church services being held under a tent that is making too much noise.

The World Health Organizations warns about the high rates of suicide on the African continent. Suicides that seem tied directly to religion, noise pollution and poverty.

4. Religion creates an avenue for many tricksters, or charlatans to parade as men of God to fleece the poor of their meagre resources.

Ghana has an overwhelmingly large number of scammers in the country. Corruption is also high at 81.6% which hasn't changed in over 3 years.

In a video I was able to catch church officials practicing speaking in tongues. This is very odd because this isn't how speaking in tongues works at all. The church official walked into the building pacing back and forth, speaking gibberish.

Here is a video explaining how bad scamming, lying, tricksters and corruption is in Ghana. Religion is not exempted from the scamming in Ghana.

The corruption and scamming is in the Ghana police and the Ghana immigration departments as well. Some of these officers often stop foreigners based on their skin color to scam money.

I've experienced this several times in Ghana because they see me and think I'm a white American instead of Black like them.

Speaking of 'tricksters' a Ghanian MP Sam George who often uses the bible in parliament, to condemn the building of a cathedral and to punish homosexuals. He's also admitted to buying his way into his position, he also said the average Ghanian is corrupted.

This is directly proved as most Ghanians proclaim to be Christians.

I paid to get elected - Sam George says the average Ghanaian is corrupt

Speaking on JoyTV’s personality profile, the lawmaker mentioned that the average Ghanaian citizen is corrupt, in his submissions he said many laments about the corrupt nature of politicians forgetting that they also fuel the act.

“Politicians are corrupt because of the people that we lead, the average Ghanaian is extremely corrupt and has lost their moral fiber. Politicians are a reflection of the people, “ he said

I paid to get elected, “How did you think I got elected, I wouldn’t sit here and say I didn’t pay. they paid more than I did but I also paid, it depends on who. monkeys play by sizes”

Also stating that the problem of the country is deep-rooted corruption because even the ordinary Ghanaian has to pay their way through to access certain services.

How ironic the MP that always whips out the bible in parlament is also saying that he paid his way to be elected and that the average Ghanian is corrupted.

6. Many politicians in Ghana use religion as a vehicle to cause disaffection among people in a bid to advance their political interests.

Whoever wrote & edited this book was brilliant, they pointed out the issues in Ghana perfectly. There is such discrimination in Ghana for people with dreadlocks which all Ghanians seem to think are Rastafarians.

Children in Ghana were kicked out of the school becaus the school wanted them to cut their hair to attend. Ghanian girls are still forced to shave their heads almost bald to attend public schools.

This was started by colonizers who claimed that Black Africans had filthy out of control hair. In order to attend the white man's schools all children had to keep their hair cut very low.

5. Most religious groups discriminate against women.in so many ways.

Gender equality for women in the United States of America to Saudi Arabia to several African countries, especially Ghana is failing women. In Ghana over the last 2 months men have been murdering women at an alarming rate, not one government official has spoken about this.

Not even the woman who heads the Ministry on Gender, Ghana ignored the #16Days of activism as well as many worldwide campaigns that bring awareness to gender and women's issues.

There are a growing number of teens in Ghana that are pregnant, some claiming they've been impregnated by grown men. Ghana's Queen Mother even spoke out about the issue, calling for these men to be castrated.

Lastly here are several comments from Ghanians on Facebook speaking about this textbook and religion in Ghana. This is directly from their own words.

Vitus Kpipene

These are factual points to any descending person. Religion is an enemy to Ghana. Reasons I stop going to church.. no one should lecture me please.

Berko Collins Osei

All the points there are factual and accurate..

She Yelviel-Dong

mmmm, for me “Religion makes people lackadaisical in the attitude towards finding practical ways to improve their undesirable living conditions.” Class 4? what does all this mean? it is a Shame

Abdul-Gafaru Salifu

Maybe the grammar, but the points about religion are true. Because we have been indoctrinated and blinded to see and hear no evil about our religious beliefs, we are unable to see the damage religion is doing to us.

Our children should not be allowed to tow same line. Children shouldn’t be made to believe that there’s some powerful being somewhere whom they should depend on. They must be told that if they don’t toil for themselves, they’ll die in abject poverty just like us and there’s no supreme being anywhere to save them.

Bertha Ntiri-Asante

I disagree with the war part but the rest have elements of validity.

Eric Berchie

As we’re all learning kindly point where the grammar is terrible so we don’t make similar mistakes.

Mutaru Mohammed

Eric Berchie there’s no grammatical error anywhere. It’s just pure hate for the truth

King Shaka

But for some grammatical errors, whatever they’ve said here is the truth 100% truth!!!!!

Tawiah Lot

Everything the Author stated in there is very true, nothing but the truth.

Kwabena Antwi-Boasiakoh

So are you saying, religion has no disadvantages? What, stated is wrong?Education is about giving the students right information and not the usual contrived, conservative and stereotyped information

Kwabena Antwi-Boasiakoh

I love the fact that, the average Ghanaian today is woke about matters concerning religion

Kofi Obeng Gyamfi

Forget about the grammar and concentrate on the contents. They’re absolutely true. In fact, christianity has been more injurious than what is written in this text book.

Ebenezer Bessing

But most of the points are true.Im a staunch Christian but a agree with some of the points raised aside de grammatical blunders

Juliana Abane

But I think aside from the grammar, the writer is bold because that’s what it’s Sir

Titus Puorizaa

Even as a Christian , all the points the writer made are perfectly right

Barimah Okese

The author of the text book needs an award. The most useless thing to happen to mankind is religion! Religion is more dangerous than the effects of weed and cocaine!

Sire Drew

You see how said Christianity is quick to react. What’s in the textbook are facts but their hypocrisy will live with them.

Sebastian Bosso

ah but before a book is printed in large quantity nacca proofread the book so watsup

Ghanians are not only fake Christians but very disriminatory as well, they judge and mistreat anyone that isn't exactly like them. This goes for skin color, hair styles, dressing, speech (which they use improper English), in going to church and shouting.

My purpose in Ghana was to take my American nonprofit for Gender Equality and Children's Rights into the rural areas of the country. The immigration officer that I was stuck with because of the pandemic scammed me every chance he got.

Albert Larbi took extra money from me for a residency permit, made me sign false paperwork in order to obtain the residency. I couldn't afford to pay the bribery money he wanted for me to register my NGO. This broke my heart, it gave me no purpose.

I was sexually assaulted by a police officer, had my identity stolen from another Ghanian. All while these people claimed to be such religious Christians. Ernest Addo stole from me, hit me, scammed money claiming it was for his sick parents.

Meanwhile the man had some 4-6 children claiming he only had the 2 that I met and that slept in my home on weekends. Ghana was a horrible place for me considering it was supposed to be filled with loving Christians.
