Ah! A new school year begins and you are super-motivated for all that this period will bring you. You have replenished your energy reserves and you feel invincible. But how long are you going to stay in this nice state ? And how do you fix it as soon as you feel it goes away?

1) One of the keys is to analyze which objectives were reached and which were not achieved before the holidays. What made you happy or disappointed or frustrated you? And why in your opinion?

2) Keep clear and defined short-term and long-term objectives; put them in writing and review them regularly. If you are taking lessons with a teacher, define with him (or her) what the goals should be for the next two or three months, for the coming semester and for the school year. Then observe if you have met your objectives by analyzing the positive and negative points.

3) Another important key is not to set goals that are too difficult to reach! Use the small step technique instead ! If your goal is far too far, you will exhaust yourself trying to reach it and you will feel frustrated not to feel that you are approaching the goal. And discouragement will soon beat at the door ... But if you set yourself an achievable goal in a short time and with little effort, you will exult with joy quickly and often. And do you know what that means? Well, motivation to continue!

4) One of the mistakes I see very often is the lack of patience. How many times does a baby fall before he can walk? The answer to this question is: hundreds of times. So be patient! Things take time to fall into place. Persevere!

5) Not comparing yourself to others is also very important. You are going your own way . No one lives in exactly the same conditions as you or has taken the same route as you. Comparing yourself with others can be a source of great suffering: there will always be a better one than you. Continue your own program and if at some point you need reference points and inspiration from others, so be it. But you should only take them for informational purposes without pride getting involved.

6) Congratulate yourself and celebrate each goal achieved. No, this does not mean that you should abuse alcohol or other dangerous substances for yourself and others. But you could share your joy and your pride with your loved ones, spend a well-deserved moment of relaxation, offer yourself an object that will symbolize this stage or keep a diary in which you would write down all your successes and when a greater number of objectives ( that you would have fixed in advance) will be reached, you will offer yourself a greater reward such as a trip, for example. The well-being and satisfaction felt during this congratulation will be a sufficient engine to make you want to commit yourself further.

7) If you lose your motivation during the year, it could be due to the fact that the courses you take do not give you the answers you expect to your questions. Talk about it with your teacher. He may pursue, from one course to another, an educational plan that he has not yet revealed to you. By explaining it to yourself, you would gain confidence knowing the various stages that await you. Or maybe your expectations were not very clear to him. It is important to understand that the teacher cannot guess everything that you think or desire ... So, it is very important to communicate well with each other and to share your impressions regularly .

If, for whatever reason, the goal you have set for yourself has not been achieved, please do not condemn yourself! Life is made up of thousands of events beyond our control and we have to adapt to it with flexibility . Amounts of events can change our lives during a school year and it is sometimes necessary to review our program ... Not to mention the fact that we happen to be more tired than expected and that our capacities of concentration and assimilation are variable from day to day. So, consider whether you should catch up or rather adapt your goals to changes in your life.

Be demanding, both with yourself and with your teacher to promote quality results, but also be flexible in all circumstances: you must know how to adapt to what life brings new every day! I wish you lots of progress!
