"You don't know what you're doing do you?" Barton asked impatiently. Everyone in the class gathered around to see what was going on. It was the last day of school for the students of Prescott Manford Preparatory School, and the students were waiting for the bell to ring. The bell of freedom, the bell that will officially start summer vacation. "Yes, Barton, I do! Now stand aside, and let me work! Sheesh!" Farrah yelled. Farrah was in the middle of solving a puzzle, in which she had to open a small wooden box that had what seemed to be an impossibly challenging opening. Farrah was best known as "The Puzzle Cracker" or "The Mystery Solver" around the school. If a student needed help solving anything, Farrah would be the one they'd go to. She was tall and slim, with thick jet black hair that she often just put up in a ponytail or a messy bun when she was in the middle of solving a puzzle. She was always up for a challenge, and there really wasn't a puzzle that she couldn't solve.

"Look! She's stumped, she doesn't know what she's doing! I did it! I stumped Farrah "The Puzzle Cracker" Jones!" Barton yelled out in victory. "Not so fast Barton! I haven't given up yet. I don't give up without a fight!" Farrah shot back. She was determined to solve this puzzle. There was no other option. Admitting defeat was not an option. She scanned the box over and over. She tried to find a spot, or a piece, that looked out of the ordinary. She then realized that she needed her best friend, Tristan, to come and help out. Tristan was her partner when it came to puzzles and mysteries. She and Tristan have been best friends since birth. His family was close to hers, and had been for a long time. They both grew up learning and reading about different puzzles from their parents and grandparents. So, in a way, they were destined to be best friends & puzzle partners.

"Well, well, well! Solving puzzles without me, huh?" A tall boy said jokingly. The boy had golden blonde hair, & was rather big for his age. He was well built, and had golden brown eyes. Everyone there knew him as Farrah's best friend. He was very popular with the girls, and many of them tried hard to get his attention. Although people knew him as Farrah's best friend, many people asked him why they weren't more than friends. He never thought of Farrah as anything but a friend. I mean, they grew up together! Who would think of their lifetime friend as anything more than that? Surely not him, and surely not Farrah. Although, he sometimes wondered if it ever crossed her mind. He doubted it though.

Farrah looked up to see her best friend, Tristan, leaning in the doorway. His shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbows and his shirt was no longer tucked in. His burgundy and gold tie was loose and swung in front of his grey sweater vest when he moved. Even in his uniform he still looked handsome. Farrah always knew Tristan was good looking, but she never really noticed until last summer when they went to the beach. She and Tristan had been there so many times, but last year when she saw him just sitting there with the sun hitting him just right, making his golden blonde hair glisten, and with his muscles flexing perfectly, she couldn't help but see him that way. Of course she knew that Tristan was her best friend, so that made it even more awkward at times. But Farrah was never the type to let her feelings get in the way of anything important, especially her friendship with her lifetime friend. She treated her thoughts and feelings for her best friend just like a puzzle that needed to be solved. She had come to the conclusion that it was just a "phase", and that it will pass and won't matter.

"Well I mean you weren't here, and I had a challenge! You know I can't back down from a challenge." Farrah said as she scanned the wooden puzzle box, not looking up once. Tristan smiled and laughed a bit because he knew this was very true. Farrah, indeed, couldn't turn down a challenge. "Well I'm here now. What's the challenge for today?" Tristan asked. He sat down in the seat next to Farrah and took the wooden box from her hand. "Oh this? Farrah, I'm disappointed in you! Has the great "Puzzle Cracker" met her match?" He said teasingly. "Oh, shut up T.C!" Farrah said, finally looking at Tristan. "I'm still looking over this thing. I haven't met my match yet, and I probably never will!" Farrah replied boastfully. Tristan looked at her and smiled then went back to looking at the puzzle. "Where were you anyway?" Farrah questioned. "Oh me? I was just taking a walk around" Tristan answered.

Just then a girl walked into the classroom. Her braided copper hair was a mess and her uniform skirt was wrinkled (not to mention extra short). The girl fixed herself quickly while she walked to her seat. While walking to her seat, she looked at Tristan; and he looked back at her. They exchanged secret smiles with one another, thinking that no one saw. But Farrah saw, and she was not happy about it. Her face grew hot with anger. Why did Tristan lie to her about where he was? And why was he sneaking around with Scarlett Redfield of all people? Farrah knew that Scarlett was the most popular and prettiest girl in school, and that every guy wanted a chance with her. She just didn't know that Tristan was one of them. She looked at Tristan who, after sharing secret smiles with Scarlett, went back to fiddling around with the wooden box of mystery. He looked up and caught her staring.

"What's wrong?" he asked. He saw that she wasn't happy and that something was troubling her. "Nothing. I'm fine." Farrah lied. "Oh, okay then. Well if you're done staring into space, how about we finish this puzzle and show them why we're the number one puzzle crackers in the school?" Tristan asked. He smiled at Farrah with a crooked smile. It was the same smile he always had on when they were about to solve a mystery or puzzle. Farrah loved that smile. She could never stay mad at him when he smiled at her like that. "Well then, Mr. Cage!" She looked at him with a look of amusement. "Let's get started on this puzzle then! Shall we?" She asked. "We shall, Ms. Jones." Tristan agreed. "Barton, prepare yourself for the best puzzle solving you will probably ever see in your life!" Farrah warned. "Because we. . .” Farrah started. "Are The Puzzle Crackers!" Tristan finished. "And there isn't a puzzle or mystery we can't solve!" They exclaimed in unison.
