Brenda Mahler is a retired educator with 34 years’ experience. As an English teacher and administrator, she learned about the life of teens from her students as a silent observer. She values memories of the students who taught compassion, the value of overcoming challenges, and the need to compromise. Her passion for teaching grew each year as she realized the power of one person to make a difference in the lives of others. Lockers Speak allows the voices of youth to speak their truths.

Lockers Speak was published on Amazon June of 2021. So far it has mostly been read by parents and educators. Overtime, I hope it draws the attention of teens because it normalizes events that many youth are experiencing. The sharing of experiences creates a common ground allowing teens o realize they are not struggling alone. The students’ voices break down walls of isolation by exposing the challenges that confront daily life.

Reviewers on Amazon overwhelming enjoyed this book. They found it stimulating, insightful, enjoyable and informative. Their words explain why readers should make room on their bookshelves for this eye-opening expose.

As a middle school educator for 25 years I found Lockers Speak (Voices of America’s Youth) a great read. It stirred memories of those students who could drive me crazy, all the while finding a special place in my heart to remain forever. The author was able to write in such a way that I often felt like I was walking the halls with her. A fun summer read.

Excellent perspective of an experienced educator. Brenda shares stories that anyone who has spent time in education can personally relate to encountering or hearing at some point. Brenda does a nice job of connecting the student voices to remind us of the impact students have on one another. Lockers Speak is an easy enjoyable read which shares the author’s insights and ideas of how to shape our most valuable commodity — students.

I have been waiting a long time for this! It is an excellent book and definitely give it 5 stars.

The teenage years are so difficult these days especially with all that is going on today. Brenda has written so eloquently, and I will also be sharing this with my teenage grandchildren.

A must to any collection.

Well written book from the true struggles our teens are facing today. From social media struggles to the peer pressures to “fit in”. I am a parent to 2 teens and see and hear these same stories often. I highly suggest this book for both parents and teens to read and talk about these stories together!
