Are You a Writer? Here's a Tool for You
To become a writer, you probably don't need to go to university; simply join...
Perhaps we should begin by admitting the elephant in the room: I am not the finest writer on the planet. However, since beginning in January 2021, I've observed that my writing has steadily improved.
While I believe that most of my success can be attributed to just writing on a regular basis, I believe (honestly) that listening to professional and experienced authors talk about writing has really aided me. Sure, if writing is one's ultimate objective, one could just enrol in a university course, right? Yes. But why spend thousands and thousands of dollars on something you could get for so much less on the internet?
Getting hands-on training from the finest in the field
The website we are discussing has something for everyone, whether you're interested in fiction, nonfiction, television writing, or journalism. In reality, you'll discover that most, if not all, of the "masterclasses" will provide you with practical abilities to deal with any problem you may encounter. The majority of the knowledge is applicable to both beginners and specialists.
To be more specific, "Masterclass" always combines PDF files with engaging videos to provide a comprehensive learning experience. These pamphlets include biographical information about the writers, supplementary class material, and activities!
Why am I so enthusiastic about exercises? Because the best learning is active learning. Only by putting things into practice can you be certain that you can...put things into practice?
Let me now offer you some samples of authors who may be found on the site.
Non-fiction:
Shonda Rhimes
Malcolm Gladwell
Roxane Gay
Fiction:
Amy Tan
Joyce Carol Oates
Neil Gaiman (one of my faves)
Margaret Atwood
Dan Browne…etc.
Plus, writers for poetry, screenwriting and much more.
Do not be concerned if you do not have a high cognitive load. Even without a notepad or at 2 a.m. before going to sleep, the lessons are easy to follow. To be honest, I often only follow lessons for the sake of encouragement.
Let me give you an example. I used to put the computer on my side and stare at the ceiling when I was taking Billy Collins' poetry Masterclass. Why? Because the behind-the-scenes, or case studies, were my favourite parts (poetry reading). It was all about becoming inspired and then going out to the other side of the room to write something down.
Allow me to conclude by emphasising that I do not want to imply that University is ineffective. On the contrary, I value education so highly that I am still studying at the age of 29. My point is that you don't have to do anything if you don't want to!
There are several possibilities that may provide you with equally significant knowledge as uni. Masterclass, Skillshare, but also books...or YouTube are all options. All you have to do is desire it.
If you're interested in Masterclass, here's a link to get 7 days for free (I don't earn anything from it): LINK to MASTERCLASS.
Is Masterclass a good investment? Yes, for all of the reasons stated above. And, as I already stated, even if I share an invitation link, I will not benefit from it. I swear that what I just said is true! Cheers!
To conclude, here's a list of some of the most famous teachers on materclass:
Neil Gaiman teaches writing
Ron Howard teaches directing
Deadmau5 teaches electronic dance music
Gordon Ramsey teaches cooking
Helen Mirren teaches acting
Garry Kasparov teaches chess
Daniel Negreanu teaches poker
Kelly Wearstler teaches interior design
Ron Finley teaches gardening.
But also you'll find names such as Natalie Portman, Martin Scorsese, Yotam Ottolenghi, Massimo Bottura, and so many more...
