Earth Day

I remember that day well in 1974, when we were in the ninth grade, when the class teacher asked us to engage with Jewish students from a secondary school in Upper Nazareth in a dialogue and discussion with Yitzhak Rabin, who was going to be a guest at the Cultural Centre in Nazareth. And indeed, we met, but they divided us into two parts: a section for Jewish students and a section for Arab students. After we sat down and calmed down a bit, Yitzhak Rabin came in and sat down with the class teacher. Suddenly the Jewish students stood up and began to chant the 'Hatikva' in a loud voice that astonished and amazed us, because it raised in front of us the wall of helplessness from not responding with that sharp language that dominated the atmosphere. The astonishment lasted for a few minutes, and one of my classmates stood up and began to sing “Haze, Nawaem, with your silk hair” by the Lebanese singer Issam Raji. This song was dominant in the Arab singing street at the time. We started chanting the song in defiance of the Jewish students. We did not discover that we are from the miserable lost generation until after the newspapers started writing about the phenomenon of “Shake Ya Nawaem”, which showed that the Palestinian student in this country does not know his national anthem, and cannot stand strong and capable in front of the other who daily robs him of his right to land, history, memory and narration Palestinian.

Two years later, in the year 76, the phenomenon of “Haze Ya Nawaem” resulted in Land Day, which was a turning point in Arab society and political awareness. It was also the fertile ground that produced local leaders who took on national and historical responsibility with strength and defiance. The students, who found nothing in front of them but 'Shake, Nawaem' at the reception of Yitzhak Rabin, participated in Land Day.

Since shaking is no longer only for the nawaem, but has become the prerogative of leaders, leaders, satellite channels, negotiations, meetings, kisses and stabs from tops to bottom, and also has become for shaking political schools and special countries that have the imprints of the political and public, and every stage has a 'shaking' that entices us with dance links, and what many of them are now We will not write about the shaking of the Arab summits, which threw off even the idea of timid shaking and adopted the method of naked shaking at the last summit in Doha.

We will not shake with the Arab peoples as they spin around in the squares and streets of spring frustration, after they found themselves between the jaws of lost rights, stolen revolutions, poverty, and leaders who are carbon copies of the previous regimes, with some fashions changing. Shall we shake the voice of Abu Janati - Samer Al Masri - in the Syrian series, which says, "We did not miss the wall, the wall is too late for us, and we did not go to the house, the house went to us", because the Arab citizen passed the wall and no longer came out of it and feels that the house he was dreaming of He went on it and now it is a block of cement, concrete, frozen inside a wall over which the floors of concerns will be built.

According to the technical definition, grey is said to be "the decoration of colours". This is how he was known because he goes with all colours. And what do we say about the behavior and complicity of grey Arab presidents against each other, is it “political adultery”, because their grey colours to the point of panic have plunged us into the quagmire of fear of tomorrow and the future, and we do not know what tomorrow will look like with these conspiring faces?! And what will the Arab generations look like tomorrow?! Will we remain prisoners of humiliation, submission and flight from the homelands?! We do not know how these leaders behave, how they behave, what their political agenda is, and where their concessions will lead? We can't say they are free to scream

Because they themselves enjoy chains, slavery, and jogging behind the West, and because their chains have been locked and locked, and only God knows about them.

And among the Arab leaders who distribute the roles of shameful complicity to the confused interior, to ask: How do we explain the coldness of 'Earth Day' and its secret death?! It is shameful that this day disappears from the map of pride, and remains confined to some souls and a modest celebration here and there!! Who is responsible for the fluidity of this day, and its entry into areas of scandalous frequency?! Everyone who tried to hide this day under many headings must be held accountable. This day was in the memory of history a lofty bright spot distributed in every place where a Palestinian is. Who turned it off?! The leadership slack state will produce hesitant, terrified generations. We need a pause from which strength and pride flow, and Earth Day is the solid ground from which this great day begins. We need to shake Earth Day so that it awakens and fills the world with a commitment to its soil.
