UN Climate Change Conference(26)

History of the SDG Knowledge Hub for the 2020 regional climate week in Glasgow (Glasgow, Scotland), the United Nations Climate Change Conference, which experts call the most important environmental conference in history.

The conference should mark a "change in commitment to real action," said Martin Mitchell, senior vice president of climate change at WWF. To keep the temperature changes below 2 degrees Celsius agreed in 2015 by the signatories of the Paris Agreement, countries must take immediate action and double their obligations to achieve zero Net. To avoid the worst consequences of the climate crisis, all countries that have ratified the Paris Agreement must reduce their emissions as soon as possible over the next decade.

What is happening now in Congress and then in Glasgow will shape international ambitions around the world to address climate change. While not entirely part of the Paris Agreement, an important part of the discussion at COP26 will focus on the countries facing today the effects of climate change from rising sea levels to coastal erosion and extreme weather. Wealthy countries are expected to significantly increase financial support to help high-risk countries adapt to the effects of global warming and build an independent oil economy.

To achieve these goals, developed countries will need to live up to their promise of incorporating by 2020 at least $ 100 billion a year in climate support from developing countries. The goal is to meet the global commitment to raise $ 100 billion a year by 2025 to help developing countries cope with the effects of climate change.

The conference is expected to cover technical topics, including carbon debt, funding for countries at risk of climate change, and environmental decisions in the first week of the conference in Glasgow, Scotland, from October 31 to November 12. More than 100 world leaders are expected to take part in the conference, including US President Joe Biden. It is the first time that COP21 teams have achieved the most important goals.

These principles are not set by the UNFCCC or the IPCC, but by the countries themselves, so they are “discussed” as such in the COP. Under the Paris Agreement, each country was required to bring in nationally determined contributions, which were developed every five years to strengthen its ambitions to reduce climate change. Each country decided to make a plan to reduce carbon emissions ahead of the next Conference in Glasgow.

The Paris Agreement is a major international agreement on climate change, negotiated by leaders in 2015, in which 195 countries participated in COP21 in Paris, hence the name. In COP26 the parties are reviewing progress in meeting their obligations to meet the Paris Agreement on keeping the earth's temperature below 2 ° C above pre-industrial levels and making efforts to limit it to 1.5 ° C. The 2021 meeting will be the 26th meeting and is called COP26.

The Conference of Parties means the Conference of the Parties and will be attended by countries that have signed the UNFCCC (UNFCC), an agreement reached in 1994. The 26-Group Conference was scheduled for October last year in Glasgow, UK but was postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic. On 28 May 2020, the COPs Bureau decided that it would take place in Glasgow, UK, from 1 November to 12 November 2021.

It will start on 31 October and end on 12 November 2021 at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, Scotland, and will be held in the city of Glasgow from 1 November 2021 under the direction of the United Kingdom. It was scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland last November with more than 200 world leaders but was postponed for a year due to the Coronavirus epidemic. It included representatives from twelve countries, usually from the ministers of climate, environment, or energy.

In anticipation of COP26, climate leaders were hopeful that countries would introduce new commitments for the next decade and long-term pollution reduction strategies by the middle of the century, and 71 would not. Almost every nation, state, or province in the world is involved, with a total of 197 signatories. These annual conferences bring together the signatories to the UNFCCC (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change), an international convention dedicated to climate change.

This is in part due to the importance of the COP (Barack Obama spoke at the last great COP in Paris 2015) and the celebration of his country’s return to the Paris Agreement. Italian events -COP and Youth Weather have also been postponed; The city of Glasgow will be organizing its COP26 events, which will take place in Milan from 28 September to 2 October 2020.
