Hunza is a remote valley located in the northernmost region of Pakistan, bordering China and Afghanistan. The valley is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, with towering mountains, lush green meadows, and crystal clear water streams. I had the pleasure of visiting Hunza last year, and I must say, it was one of the most memorable trips of my life. It was the last trip we enjoyed as couple and after that my baby was born. :)

Our journey to Hunza started from Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan. We hired a private car to drive us to the valley, which took us around 12 hours. The drive was long, but the scenic views of the Karakoram Highway were worth it. The highway is considered one of the most dangerous roads in the world, as it winds through the mountains and passes through narrow bridges and tunnels. However, the road is also famous for its stunning views of the snow-capped peaks and the mighty Indus River.

As we reached Hunza, we were greeted by the majestic view of Rakaposhi Mountain, which is one of the highest peaks in the region. The mountain stood tall and proud, with its snow-covered summit shining brightly in the sunlight. We checked into our hotel, which was located in the heart of the valley, and started exploring the area.

One of the first places we visited was the Altit Fort, which is a centuries-old fort built on a hilltop overlooking the valley. The fort was built in the 11th century and has been restored and preserved by the local authorities. It was fascinating to see the ancient architecture and learn about the history of the fort, which was once the seat of power for the rulers of Hunza.

Next, we visited the Baltit Fort, which is another ancient fort located in the valley. The fort was built in the 8th century and served as the residence of the Mirs, the rulers of Hunza. The fort has been restored and converted into a museum, showcasing the rich history and culture of the region.

Apart from the forts, Hunza is also famous for its beautiful natural scenery. We visited the Attabad Lake, which is a man-made lake formed by a landslide in 2010. The lake is surrounded by towering mountains and offers breathtaking views of the turquoise blue water. We also visited the Nagar Valley, which is a lush green valley located a few kilometers from Hunza. The valley is known for its fruit orchards and is a popular spot for hiking and trekking.

One of the highlights of our trip was the Hunza Valley Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place every spring. The festival celebrates the blooming of the cherry blossom trees, which are a symbol of peace and prosperity in the region. The festival features local music, dance, and food, and attracts tourists from all over the world.

We also got to taste the local cuisine of Hunza, which is a mix of Pakistani and Central Asian flavors. The local specialty is the chapshoro, which is a meat-filled pastry baked in a clay oven. We also tried the apricot juice, which is a refreshing drink made from the local apricots.

In conclusion, my trip to Hunza was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The valley's natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture left a lasting impression on me. If you're looking for a unique travel destination that offers a mix of adventure, culture, and natural beauty, then Hunza should definitely be on your list.
