At a distance of 13 km from Ooty Railway Station and 13 km from Coonoor, Katary Falls is a stunning waterfall situated at Adikaratti village near Ooty. It is one of the popular waterfalls in Ooty and among the must include places in Ooty - Coonoor Tour Packages.

The Katary Falls is cascading down from a height of about 130 feet into a pool at the base. It is the third-largest waterfall in the Nilgiris. It is a 2-tiered waterfall and can be reached by trekking from the main road. It is also the site of India's first hydroelectric power project, the Kateri hydroelectric system. The hydroelectric power plant generated 1000 KW of electricity from the mechanical energy of the falling water from the Katary Falls. The hydroelectric power station is an attraction on its own and attracts hundreds of visitors.

The waterfall is a sight to behold during the rainy season when the water cascades in all its glory amidst lush green woods enveloped in mighty mountains. The height of the location and the scenic beauty of the surroundings make Katary Falls look like a never-ending cascade from the sky to the earth. Don't venture out in the monsoon as it is slippery and the waterfall gets a bit more fierce too.

Getting to Kattery Park in Coonoor is quite easy. With plenty of transport options available to commute within the hill station, it can be easily accessed by a local cab, taxi or an auto-rickshaw. However, the main 3 modes of transportation are as follows:

By Air: Coimbatore International Airport, Tamilnadu (India ) which is the nearest airport to Coonoor, serves various domestic flights such as SpiceJet and IndiGo from the major cities of India to Coimbatore. International travellers can board an international flight from Singapore or Sharjah air terminal to reach Coonoor in the least possible time. After arriving in Coonoor, opt for a private taxi to get to your destination.

By Road: Choose to travel via road if you wish to enjoy the unseen beauty on your way. There are several private and government-owned buses that connect Ooty to Coonoor and vice-versa. For your convenience, luxury coaches with air-conditioning facilities are also available to and from Coonoor. However, the booking of such coaches is done in much advance!

By Train: Enjoy a train journey to Mettupalayam Railway Station, which is only 45 km away from Ooty. The station provides train service from Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Jaipur, Kanyakumari, Puri and many more. From there, you can either go for a Nilgiri Toy Train ride to commute within the hill station or simply hire a vehicle from the leading car rental companies in Ooty for a hassle-free experience. The choice is yours!
