From Hubble to Webb: The Evolution of Space Observation and Discovery.

Hey folks! before going into the topic let me ask you a question.

Have you ever looked up in the sky and wondered what these stars, planets, earth, and our universe look like?

Stargazing is another hobby that anyone can pick up and enjoy from their backyard.

Like that, imagine looking at stars through a telescope, it will be one of the most profound and awe-inspiring sight.

It's a gorgeous vista right!

This picture looks more like an impressionist landscape, towers made of gas and dust strewn across the image, with only a hint of the bright stars behind the nebula peeking through.

This is about two views of the Carina Nebula - Hubble on the top, James Webb on the bottom.

For the past three decades, the superstar of the skies has been Hubble, a NASA's telescope launched in 1990 that has taken absolutely epic images of planets, stars, galaxies, nebulae, and so many other astronomical wonders.

Now, JWST is set to take the baton from Hubble, Nasa calls JWST “the scientific successor to Hubble”.

So you guys wonder what is JWST? and so many question arises from your head. Lets take a look on it.

This is the largest, complex, and most challenging space telescope ever constructed.

The James Webb Space Telescope is the big observatory orbiting the sun millions of miles away from the earth which examines space through infrared lights.

This telescope sees the universe in light that is invisible to human eyes. This light is called infrared radiation.

The James Webb Space Telescope will use its infrared cameras to see through dust in our universe.

As a result, Stars and planets form inside those dust clouds, so peeking inside could lead to exciting discoveries!

It’s also an engineering marvel and an exploration powerhouse. To challenge theories. To see sights yet unseen.

Because this telescope allows scientists to see what our earth was like 200 million years ago and explore the first galaxies that formed after the big bang. Which also studies the stars, how planets are born, and objects within our solar system.

Webb is much better than Hubble Telescope because by comparison JWST can view the Universe in longer-wavelength infrared light while Hubble studies it primarily at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths.

The longer wavelength allows to look inside the dust clouds where stars and solar systems are being formed.

Also, Webb got more than 6 times the size of the Hubble Space Telescope’s primary mirror.

About infrared instruments and cameras, they can operate even at super cold temperatures which will be colder than the surface of Pluto. They have a large sun shield to protect them from the heat coming from the sun, earth, and moon.

To talk about the distance between the two telescopes, the Hubble Space Telescope orbits the Earth at an altitude of ~570 km above it. Webb will not actually orbit the Earth - instead it will sit at the Earth-Sun L2 Lagrange point, 1.5 million km away!

Because at the L2 point Webb's solar shield will block the light coming from the Sun, Earth, and Moon. This will help Webb stay cool, which is very important for an infrared telescope.

Webb is a technological challenge of thousands of people across the United states, Canada and Europe.

Thus, The James Webb Space Telescope, it's yours to unfold the beauty and mystery in the universe and our place in it!
